Cora & Ada?

Expecting baby girl 2 at the end of this year. We already have a Cora, is Ada too similar? I think it’s okay, DH thinks they’re too similar…

I think it's fine. Completely different sound other than the A ending

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/07/2025 19:45

They are lovely together.

AntiHop · 12/07/2025 19:46

I think that's lovely

TheNinthLock · 12/07/2025 20:11

Absolutely gorgeous!

cariadlet · 12/07/2025 20:15

I would say no but that's because I really don't like Ada rather than because they're too similar.

It's yet another Granny name but not a pretty one like others that have come back into fashion.

It's probably my age but as soon as I read Ada, I automatically thought of Les Dawson and Roy Barraclough.

They sound lovely together
Good choice

LucasBuck · 12/07/2025 21:59

Agree with pp that Cora and Ada are fine together - similar short, sweet, retro style actually (albeit more popular in Ada’s case), so they make a nice sibset imo.

I can’t see why having the same ending sound matters - I know lots of families that have kids with names all ending in the trendier “ee” sound, so “ah” shouldn’t be any different imo.

Tdcp · 12/07/2025 21:59

Aw Cora is my babies name and Ada was another name we considered. I love them both so much! Go for it :)

Ikeameatballs · 12/07/2025 22:05

Lovely names but I think they are too similar.

Cora and Dorothy
Cora and Lydia
Cora and Pearl
Cora and Marnie
Cora and Sadie

mintgreensoftlilac · 12/07/2025 22:08

Aww yeah they’re lovely together. But I am biased as I have a baby Ada too! I think together they sound really classic and suit any age.

ThePoshUns · 12/07/2025 22:09

Both lovely names and go well together

Madremia6 · 12/07/2025 22:49

Love Ada 🩷

DramaAlpaca · 12/07/2025 22:52

Not too similar at all.

Cora and Nora would be, but Cora and Ada are fine together.

mathanxiety · 12/07/2025 23:43

They're nice together and match each other for vintage quality.

Would you consider Cora and -
Mabel
Hazel
Daphne
Alice
Vita

Enko · 12/07/2025 23:45

I think they are too similar its the a sound at the end thats said similar. I say that as a mum who has 2 dd that has by looks very different names but in reality ending is so similar they often misshear.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Mabel: we know one already
Hazel: not a fan
Daphne: lovely but DH is not keen
Alice: one in the family already
Vita: probably a bit too unusual for us

Thanks this is what DH is worried about I think. Also he already mixes up our names and worries Ada will cause more confusion!

Cora is a nice name. Ada is dire. Pearl. Iris. Just not Ada. It's an ugly granny name.

OopsieeDaisy · 13/07/2025 08:06

Both lovely names and go nicely together, not too similar at all

I don't like Ada with Cora but, more importantly, your DH also does not.

Other suggestions..
Zena
Beth
Bridget
Philippa
Fenella

They're of the same vibe but sound a bit samey. I like the Ada Lovelace association but I also thought Cissie and Ada.

I'd pick something stronger sounding.
