Louis Reuben Arthur

I like Louis Elliot Arthur... maybe you could go with Louis James Arthur and nickname him L.J.

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/07/2025 16:10

Louis James Arthur flows best, but Louis Elliot Arthur is more unusual and takes the edge off the royal theme - James is a very popular middle name. Reuben is my favourite name of the three as a standalone name, but flows less well as a middle imo.

I don’t think Louis needs a nn? That’s one of the nice things about it, it works well as it is.

Louis WILL shorten to Loo in my experience

CatchABee · 12/07/2025 18:19

Second the LJ Louis James is beautiful.
LJ is an epic nickname I think too. Highly recommended.

shirtyshirt · 12/07/2025 18:51

I still call my cousin Lulu

ScrewedByFunding · 12/07/2025 18:52

Prefer Louis Arthur James. James Arthur is a singer.

Jennyathemall · 12/07/2025 18:55

Lane

I like Louis Elliot.

I don't think a double syllable name can be tampered with much. Except to just use the first one only - Lou.

(which my mothers lovely East Ender Aunt did for every.single.name in the family. Lau Mau Bau Fau Al Rau and Shau) All to rhyme with 'ow' as if you've hurt yourself 🤣

Bitzee · 12/07/2025 18:59

I love the name Louis but dislike all of those combos. Reuben just isn’t my thing. Elliot Arthur are lovely names but I dislike that it spells lea. And James Arthur is that singer. If you really want Arthur I’d do it as the first so
Louis Arthur Elliot or Louis Arthur James.

Louoby · 12/07/2025 19:15

My son is Louis and he’s 4. His middle name is John after my dad. We call him Louis or sometimes I call his Louis Lou. There aren’t really any other nicknames. I think Louis Maxwell or Louis Alexander goes nice. I like your suggestion of James too x

Emanwenym · 12/07/2025 19:55

It looks a bit like you are trying to use your favourite boy's names.
James is a filler middle name and every other Louis will be Louis James.

All the names are OK but they're all a bit weak-sounding.

I'd use family names as middle names.

shirtyshirt · 12/07/2025 20:11

How is James a weak name? 😆

PGBlush · 12/07/2025 20:24

I know a Louis Edward Alexander, which sounds very regal 😆

GoodVibesHere · 12/07/2025 21:10

James

Don't people usually use their favourite names? Isn't that kind of how it works?! 🤔

Ineedadviceonnames · 12/07/2025 23:02

Arthur is a family name, as is having 2 middle names ☺️

Louis Elliott Arthur is very nice. Louis Arthur Elliott would also be nice.

If not Lou, how about Ludo?

Your child could end up with a nickname his classmates choose for him that bears no relation whatsoever to his name - Bruiser, Gnasher, Biffo, Dudley....

Louis Arthur James is perfect in my opinion then x

healthybychristmas · 13/07/2025 08:00

Louis Matthew

PurpleChrayn · 13/07/2025 08:03

Oh don’t call him Louis! There are enough already.

@shirtyshirt , James isn't but every other boy has James as a middle name and that weakens it.

@LittleGreenDuck , they use a middle name that flows, usually a single-syllable filler name. It's the boy equivalent of Rose/May/Grace. I love the name James but not as a middle name.

Arthur is fine, @Ineedadviceonnames , but I think the other middle name needs to be a strong one.
Louis Arthur Charles?

Thanks for your suggestions - we're pretty set on our short list, it's just a case of deciding which one. Think we've decided but it's interesting to get other perspectives!

Louis James Arthur flows best but there is the singer with that name. Louis Arthur Jude?

MiddleAgedDread · 15/07/2025 12:06

are you pronouncing it Lewis or Loo-ee?
Either way, I think the hard J in James works best as a first middle name. Elliot is too vowely.
