Caspian or Peregrine

Title says it all... Am now about to burst and need a boys name. Already have 2 DDs; Romany Eulalia (Romy) and Antigone Sapphire (Tiggy) and need a boy's name. Me and DH have narrowed it down to Caspian or Peregrine which we both love. I prefer Caspian and always have but DH worries people might think we have been 'inspired' by the new Narnia movie, he likes Peregrine more.
DS's sons middle names will be Xavier and James in any order. Help us oh wise mners!

PS, I Love Gideon. I know it's associated with bibles, but associations can be worse. I guess you like names with a bit of gravitas! So perhaps that puts you off less than an association to the magic roundabout or something.

I also love (and suggest) Barnabus, Columba, Galileo, Prospero, ...

Still thinking.

treacletart · 26/05/2008 15:34

Caspian is better than Peregrine - you could try Casper instead if you wanted to avoid the Narnia comparison, though TBH I think it'll be the least of your worries with these choices.

Grublin · 26/05/2008 15:36

I know a Peregrine, he's in his early 30's and he's lovely.
Perry is a great name!

popsycal · 26/05/2008 15:37

Sylviebruno - you are so familiar....have you namechanged?

SylvieBruno · 26/05/2008 15:39

I have. Do you mean I am familiar as in over-familiar?!

I could be familiar because Sylvie and Bruno are two characters from a CS Lewis book though!

diplodocus · 26/05/2008 16:05

Are you intending to give birth to the hero of a Mills and Boon novel?

SylvieBruno · 26/05/2008 16:06

Ha ha!

BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 16:18

Wind-up or not I am very grateful you have started this thread. I am having our DS on Wednesday and DH wants Peregrin (as in Took)as a middle name - I shall print off this thread and leave it somewhere prominent (and possibly highlight certain posts just to get the point across fully).

BroccoliSpears · 26/05/2008 16:22

Both great names. I like Peregrine. Think I might prefer it for a girl though, but that might be because I know a wonderful woman called Peregrine.

ErnestTheBavarian · 26/05/2008 16:37

Of the 2, Caspian. Also love Balthazar, wich is very popular in Switzerland, shortened to Balz, but dh won't let me have it, sniff, tho I don't think I'd dare anyway.

belgo · 26/05/2008 16:39

I also don't like Peregrine.

Caspian and Caspar are just about ok.

SpacePuppy · 26/05/2008 16:48

Isn't there a Caspian sea and a peregrine falcon?
Sorry don't like them as names.

FairyMum · 26/05/2008 16:54

Was thinking of Caspian for DS3. Love the name!

roquefort · 26/05/2008 16:55

Prefer Caspian but Xavier James on its own would be better.

fishie · 26/05/2008 16:56

i like them both. think caspian xavier is a bit difficult to say so you'd better put the james first.

is the water san pellegrino? not peregrine then.

branflake81 · 26/05/2008 17:40

I think Peregrine Falcon and Prince Caspian...neither to my taste although if you put a gun at my head and asked me to choose I would say Caspian.

I might inwardly snigger if I met someone with those names and think they would probably be extremely unfanciable.

You did ask...

norkmaiden · 26/05/2008 17:45

Caspian/Casper/Cass are cool. I don't like Peregrine (and like fennel am usually a fan of unusual names)

Bertie?

HensMum · 26/05/2008 17:50

I think both sound pretentious but Caspian is the lesser of two evils. Cass is a nice nickname. I knew a Peregrine (Perry) once. He had a brother called Merlin. Oh god, I may have given you more ideas....

norkmaiden · 26/05/2008 17:51

Gabriel?

Gulliver??

dizzydixies · 26/05/2008 17:51

I like Caspian but if you're put off by the film what about Cassian or Cassius

both nice alternatives

Tortington · 26/05/2008 17:54

peregrine achilles is great

Twinkie1 · 26/05/2008 17:56

Roger is better than them all - now am off for a swim because I am having a hard time being serious!

serendippity · 26/05/2008 17:57

Caspian is lovely..in fact i may suggest it to dp if we have a boy
I like romany as well.

norkmaiden · 26/05/2008 18:00

awww Twinkie, play along!

lollipopmother · 26/05/2008 18:46

Argh, don't like either of them, but Caspian is much better than Perigrine imo, Caspian isn't too bad I don't think.
