Roman is becoming a little common and will date badly imo

Romeo is more classic and less overused

Defo not a beautiful name

Why is Daniel not a beautiful name?
What makes a name beautiful?
That's my imaginary son you're insulting 😂😂

ClareVoiance · 04/07/2025 16:46

Boy's name. George in Spanish, I think.

Trending, fashionable names aren’t for me, but if they are for you, go for it.

Well it is a very Common Slavic name we have been using it so many years… decades… and then at some point it becomes trendy… so don’t really know why…

What are the examples of trendy names that date badly? Could you come up with?

I like Roman but don’t like Romeo, my son was almost Roman but glad I didn’t use it due to popularity

anotherwordforit · 04/07/2025 17:24

On the surface I do like them BUT Roman seems to have become really popular all of a sudden so I would worry that it may also date quickly. For Romeo I would worry a bit if he didn’t turn out especially good-looking (I know that sounds ridiculous but the connotations are too strong)

ScratCat · 04/07/2025 17:26

Both utterly chavvy.

Needmorelego · 04/07/2025 17:27

I can't think of any specific names but I think naming a baby after a current popular TV character (for example people using character names from Game of Thrones) can date quite quickly.
Roman has become more popular in recent years but I don't think it will suddenly become an embarrassing name to have.
I like Roman.
You seem to like it.
Go for it.

Urrgh. Horrible word.
Please don't use it.

Honestly I know so many Rome/Roman/Romeos. It puts me off as it’s so common

What’s a better word to describe ‘chavvy’ in your opinion?

There isn't a better word.
It's a disgusting insult.

Totally agree. I cringe when people use it, makes them look ridiculous and uneducated.

Why? I can’t think of another adjective that fits as well.

ClareVoiance · 04/07/2025 17:35

@Sandmaennchen , 'gorgeous', probably. Hmm
I'd say 'indicative of the age and socio-economic background of the parents', but that would be unacceptable too.

So can a poster get their honest opinions across? Surely that’s the point of these threads?

Just like some names are considered ‘posh’ others are considered ‘common’ and it’s useful to know how others perceive a name

Needmorelego · 04/07/2025 17:37

BearBuggy · 04/07/2025 17:29

Honestly I know so many Rome/Roman/Romeos. It puts me off as it’s so common

It's funny though.
My daughter's name was supposedly in the top ten names when she was born but we've rarely come across girls with her name who are a similar age.
It's a name that can work for a 90 year old woman or a new born baby even in 2025 - but despite being a top ten one she really is the only one in our general community/family/friends.
You just never know.

Needmorelego · 04/07/2025 17:39

@ScratCat @Sandmaennchen "chavvy" is a rude slur that's borderline racist.

Maybe the previous poster’s suggestion of ‘indicative of the parents’ age and socioeconomic background’ is more acceptable to you then?

Needmorelego · 04/07/2025 17:41

@Sandmaennchen if we are going down that path I personally would associate the name Roman or Romeo as coming from a quite "posh" family 😂

Meh. Rude slur, absolutely.

Classist, sneering? Absolutely. Borderline racist? No, not in common parlance in 2025.
