What’s everyone’s thoughts on the name Lilia?
I feel like it’s a lovely twist on the classic Lily and we’re very much leaning towards it!

Opinions?

Love it. Beautiful name

AuntieSoap · 21/06/2025 09:11

Really pretty name. It’s unusual without being whacky.

Alltheburpees · 21/06/2025 09:12

It used to be a brand of sanitary towels, but probably no one will remember that now.

TeenagersAngst · 21/06/2025 09:12

I used to nanny for a toddler called Lilia about thirty years ago - always loved the name!

That was Lilets and you can still buy them

Chickoletta · 21/06/2025 09:15

Very pretty. It’s becoming popular. I’m a teacher and in one year group we have 2 x Lillia, 3 x Lily, 1 x Lyra, 1 x Lara and a Lila (pronounced Leela).

Prefer Lilla.

Painrelief · 21/06/2025 09:40

It’s so pretty . I like it more than Lily .

Cillaere · 21/06/2025 09:45

Don't like it because of the sanitary towel connection, but it's your call obviously. What about Lillian?

Moreteaandchocolate · 21/06/2025 10:13

It’s lovely! I know a very nice teen called Lilia and it suits her 😊

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 21/06/2025 10:21

I have a friend who named her daughter Lilia. She’s 18 now. It’s a lovely name.

Emanwenym · 21/06/2025 10:31

Tesco own-brand tampons from a while back.

As a name , it seems samey, not as nice as the overused Lily but looks like Lila and Lilian.

BoleynMemories13 · 21/06/2025 11:13

A bit fussy and frilly for me. I much prefer Lily or Lila (lie-la).

Enko · 21/06/2025 11:14

I prefer Lillian but I like Lilia

legoplaybook · 21/06/2025 11:18

Just as a name I do think it's very cute.
But as a childminder I currently have Lily, Lily Mae, Lila and Layla on my books and recently had a Lyra leave so on that basis I would avoid L names!

AnneMarieW · 21/06/2025 19:39

Stunning. I don’t know why it’s so underused in the UK when both Lily/Lilly and Amelia/Emilia are so popular- you’d think people would cotton on to Lilia being a very pretty mix of both. I think it’s much better known in Eastern Europe.

Not sure why people go on about tampons on here whenever Lilia is mentioned, when I’ve never seen any called Lilia on the shelves (only Lilettes, which hasn’t harmed the popularity of Lily any). Any sanitary products called Lilia must have been quite a while ago, so unlikely to cause any teasing by her peers now!

My only hesitancy about Lilia would be possible aural confusion with Lydia - but that’s a risk with many lesser used names, that people could mistake it for something more popular. I still think it’s beautiful 😍

MrsKateColumbo · 21/06/2025 19:48

It's plain but perfectly pleasant

CuteOrangeElephant · 21/06/2025 19:55

My first association is the film Lilja 4-ever, one of the bleakest and most depressing films I have ever seen.

I remember and it's the 1st thing i think of.
Much prefer Lily.

BunnyRuddington · 22/06/2025 08:57

I thought of the broadband service but I’ve looked it up and thats Lila.

ArtfullyCrumpled · 22/06/2025 09:00

I prefer Lillian which can be shortened to Lil, Lilly or Lillia

xTinkerbell · 22/06/2025 09:50

I love Lilia but can’t get DH on board

Katie1900 · 15/05/2026 09:21

This is such an old thread now nearly a year but I have a 13 year old Lilia so I'll leave my thoughts for who ever wants to find it when considering the name.
I loved Lily and still do but there were lots of them.
Lilia for me came from watching strictly come dancing and one of the dancers was called Lilia and to me it meant I could have Lily without it being the same.
The only issue was how we spelt it, my mum thought Lillia looks more like how it's said, we thought too many Ls in it so when for Lilia with one.

My only thing is no one ever says it correctly Lilah being the most common name she is called. You can't get her name on anything which can upset little children when they want something from a gift shop.
My auntie did say it was a made up name 😂 but that's her opinion.

I was talking to my daughter when she was little in a shop once, and an older lady heard me and she said 'oh my goodness is her name Lilia?' I said yes and she went around the corner got her friend and said 'this is my Lilia, she's never met another Lilia in 85 years!' that was honestly lovely. The lady said she thought her dad might have heard the name in Europe in ww2 and that's why she was called Lilia!

It's a lovely name, my daughter now 13 loves it, but everyone will get it wrong, call her every other L sounding name and ask her to repeat it 😂 but I don't regret choosing it all those years ago I don't understand why it isn't more popular!

It is nice, but I prefer Lily.

Lilia rhymes with "frillier" and that kind of summarises my feelings! A bit over done maybe?

I just think Lily is "sleeker and chicer!"
