Jack or Caspian

We can't choose! I've always loved Jack, and it feels a safer choice, but is it still so common? I love the nickname Cass, but is Caspian too pretentious? All thoughts welcome!

Caspian, no question. Jack is overused.

WaltzingWaters · 20/06/2025 18:47

Caspian. Jack is overused.

yestothat · 20/06/2025 18:49

Caspian nickname Cass.
Jack is far to boring

Temporaryname158 · 20/06/2025 18:50

Jack, timeless. Caspian, pretentious and nobody will ever call him that so why not just call him Cass in the first place

theotherfossilsister · 20/06/2025 18:51

How about Jolyon (could be Jem but has the three syllables of Caspian and same feel)

SeaDragon17 · 20/06/2025 18:55

Cass sounds very effeminate. Jack is too common (and is also a nn and I have a personal dislike of nn being given rather than the actual name, but I know I am in the minority there).

In short - do you have any other names you like? What about Jasper (nn Jas) or Sebastian?

whatsyournickname · 20/06/2025 18:59

Prefer Caspar nickname Cass

Anonforeddiscussion · 20/06/2025 19:08

We loved Caspian for our son before he was born. I'll be honest, I'm glad we didn't call him that in the end!

BoleynMemories13 · 20/06/2025 19:21

100% Jack

A timeless classic, and there are nowhere near as many little ones about these days.

I really dislike Caspian and the nn Cass for a boy. Casper is slightly preferable (far less pretentious) but I still much prefer Jack.

Haveiwon · 20/06/2025 19:26

Caspian 100% - great name!

Moreteaandchocolate · 20/06/2025 19:48

Definitely Jack for me. Caspian is a bit frilly / pretentious and I don’t like Cass for a boy - to me that’s short for Cassie / Cassandra.

TaupeMember · 20/06/2025 19:58

Love jack.

Monkeysymbols · 20/06/2025 19:59

Caspian caspian caspian please please please use it

JillyGiraffe · 20/06/2025 20:36

I vote Jack! I don’t know of any little ones with the name. My children both have popular names but that doesn’t bother me. Caspian seems more pretentious than Caspar. Not sure if children these days will know about Caspar the friendly ghost, but I think it’s a lovely name!

TomatoSandwiches · 20/06/2025 20:39

Jaspian... Cassack... Caspiack?

Sleepnplay · 20/06/2025 20:45

I voted Caspian of the two, but I much prefer Cassian, or even Caspar.

Conkerjar · 20/06/2025 20:58

Chose Caspian because I would never use Jack, but if you're struggling between two names, neither of them is the one, OP...

YourOpalKoala · 20/06/2025 20:59

Casspian

Am805463 · 20/06/2025 21:01

Caspian, Jack is so dull and unimaginative.

Zebralie · 20/06/2025 21:03

Jack is THE most boring name!!!

shoopshoopdedoo · 20/06/2025 21:08

Jack, without question!

But then I really dislike Jasper/Casper and I think Caspian might be even worse. 🫣

Maxorias · 20/06/2025 21:25

I find Jack bland and a bit boring, sorry. Nothing wrong with the name itself, it's just been so overused - every other novel/movie main character is Jack or John (I figure because it's a safe choice and so bland it's like a placeholder for people to projecteur and identify with the character).

Doesn't mean you shouldn't use it if you like it, but since you asked for opinions 🙈

In fact I prefer Jackson to Jack if only because it feels that tiny bit more interesting.

But Caspian is vastly superior, also like Caspar. I used to dislike Jasper but it's kind of grown on me.

stopringingme · 20/06/2025 21:39

Jack

NoVibrato · 20/06/2025 22:02

Prince Caspian in the Narnia books by C.S. Lewis was a very nice chap!

JillyGiraffe · 20/06/2025 22:11

Seems we can’t really choose between the two names either..!
