We don’t know what we are having so I will list both girl and boy names below. If I could have some opinions that would be great. I don’t care about names being popular, I would rather have a name that I love, than one I don’t like as much just because it’s more original. If there’s 10 other children in class with the same name, it doesn’t bother me.

Lucas
Theo
Leo (husbands favourite, but I’m not sure)
Finn

Violet
Mia
Sophia
Madeline
Mila
Florence (hate the nickname Flo though)

Love Finn and Florence.

JacketPotatoAvecFromage · 19/06/2025 09:23

If Luca was in the mix, I’d say Luca. Otherwise, I like Theo & Finn for boys.

i love the name Violet. Also love Madeleine, Florence & Sophia.

From your list I like Theo and Finn for a boy and Violet, Madeline and Florence for a girl.

Glitchymn1 · 19/06/2025 09:31

Theo and Sophia.

I detest the name Florence/ Flo. (Sorry)

We were actually thinking about Luca!

Not a fan of Leo, and Florence will almost certainly be shortened to Flo. I love the others. Prefer the spelling Madeleine (but I’m biased because I have one!)

Leo and Florence 🥰

NormaSears · 19/06/2025 12:51

Lucas - Lucas and Luca very popular. Not keen on Lucas, don't like Luca.
Theo - don't like it
Leo - like it
Finn - like it but Finlay is very popular

Violet - ok
Mia - don't like
Sophia - they're everywhere
Madeline - Madeleine is nice, Maddie not so nice
Mila - don't like
Florence - ok but you don't like Flo

Commonsense22 · 19/06/2025 14:02

Lucas and Theo.
Madeline or Mila for girls

DeSoleil · 19/06/2025 14:33

Theo is lovely. Out of the girls names I am not keen on any but Sophia is the best one although Sophie is nicer.

Do you like the name Louise as that’s in a similar vein.

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/06/2025 15:41

I love Leo or Theo for a boy, and Sophia or Mia for a girl. I like all your name ideas though.

MiddleAgedDread · 19/06/2025 15:44

If you don't like Flo then I think that rules out Florence, although it would be my favourite from your list.
I really like Mila and prefer Sophie to Sophia.
The rest are ok although I'm not keen on Violet. Your boys list is fairly solid.

BoleynMemories13 · 19/06/2025 16:59

I'm exactly the same as you. It's far more important to truly love a name rather than just pick something to be different.

I love all of your boy list, especially Finn and Lucas.

From your girl list, I prefer Florence (I would shorten to Florrie). Mia and Sophia are ok. I like Madeleine (prefer this spelling, I just see 'made line' with the other), but I'm not so fussed on Maddy.

I'm not so keen on Mila are Violet. Mila it's the sound (mee-la just reminds me of mealworms, I appreciate that's my issue!) and Violet it's the fact autocorrect suggests violent or violence when you start to type it.

I don’t care about popularity (how many are in a class) either - but I’m wary of anything very trendy as I know I wouldn’t appreciate a dated name myself, and you never know which of the names which have shot up in the charts in the last decade or two will sound dated in future.

So for me of your choices, it would be Lucas and Sophia as the closest to “classic” sounding to me (would have been Madeline, but Madeleine seems better used in the UK and it might be a pain to have to correct the spelling all the time).

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 20/06/2025 00:10

Lucas and Violet

(Don’t pick Florence if you hate Flo - inevitably the nn you hate will be the one they chose as teens)

My Grandmother Florence was a 'Florrie' all her life, much nicer than Flo. She had a friend known as Reny (ree knee, not like the tablets)

Finn or Florence

used to love Madeleine, but it just makes my heart hurt now.
