Freddie is a gorgeous 💛 and Roman

summerscomingsoon · 17/06/2025 22:31

Freddie and Roman very popular nowadays.

I have a Samuel so biaised.

Love all the others too.

Which sounds best with your surname

ninjahamster · 17/06/2025 22:32

Lovely name choices!

I think I would go with Freddie or Joseph.

AmelieSummer25 · 17/06/2025 22:35

Out of this's I'd choose Thomas.

Bitzee · 17/06/2025 22:35

Personally I really don’t like Roman. And it’s a rather different vibe to the rest of your list… Then there are so many little Freddies. Probably because it is a lovely name but I think it’s a bit too ubiquitous. Half the nursery dads will probably be called James. Although it is still a nice name! Samuel, Joseph or Thomas would be my top 3 anyway.

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/06/2025 22:37

I like them all, apart from Roman. I’d avoid Freddie because it seems to be the name of every baby boy born in the last few years! James is my favourite.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 17/06/2025 22:38

Samuel James
or
Thomas Joseph

BootballJoy · 17/06/2025 22:57

I'd choose Thomas from your list.

Emanwenym · 17/06/2025 22:59

In order:
James
Thomas
Samuel
Joseph
Freddie
Roman

feelingbleh · 17/06/2025 23:00

I think Thomas it really grows with a person like Tommy when little then Tom when older and Thomas in professional setting or when he's in trouble and your telling him off

repeatingabaselessclaim · 18/06/2025 00:24

I like all the names OP, difficult to choose, but I would say:
Joseph
James
Samuel
Thomas
Roman
Freddie

Lettuceleafy · 18/06/2025 00:28

James is my favourite.

PizzaSophiaLoren · 18/06/2025 00:47

I love Thomas and Joseph

SnowFrogJelly · 18/06/2025 00:56

Roman

Moreteaandchocolate · 18/06/2025 02:52

All are nice - Thomas, Samuel, Joseph and James are all 10/10 names to me - Thomas is my absolute favourite - you don’t come across too many these days, and I like Tom slightly better than Sam or Joe as nn’s (I know a lot of female Sams and Jos).

Freddie is too popular at the moment - every other boy is Freddie round here.

Roman is my least favourite on your list.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 18/06/2025 04:32

I'd choose Joseph.
How about Joel?
Lovely names

Agree

Pemba · 18/06/2025 04:46

Don't like Roman much, it just makes me think of Ancient Romans in togas etc, and also Roman Polanski, vile man.

All your others are really nice classic names. My favourite would be Joseph (Joe). Have you considered Jacob (Jake)? A very similar vibe. I really love James too, but some people might see it as bland, just because it's been so well-used over the years. I have an idea that it's not so ubiquitous with little ones at the moment though. Freddie is lovely, but I'd put Frederick on the birth certificate. It's a bit more serious.

BoleynMemories13 · 18/06/2025 06:27

Thomas is my favourite boy name. Such a handsome classic. I've never met a Tom who I haven't liked.

My next choices would be the other classics on your list: Joseph, James or Samuel.

Freddie is ok but I'm not a fan of ie short forms as given names. If you wouldn't use just Tommy, Joey or Jamie (for example), don't restrict him with just Freddie. Frederick or something like Alfred or Wilfred on the birth certificate would be far preferable.

I really dislike Roman. It's a totally different style to the other names on your list. It's very popular right now but all the ones I know are real pains, so I don't have good associations with the name. I think it's fine if you are Russian, or of other Eastern European heritage, but if not it's just a current trend which will date. Your other choices have stood the test of time much better.

BoleynMemories13 · 18/06/2025 06:32

If you're looking for other ideas, these are a similar vibe to Thomas, Joseph, James and Samuel:-

Matthew
William
Jacob
Benjamin
George
Daniel
Edward
Luke
Adam
Alexander

As far as ie/y stand alone names go, Harry and Charlie feel like the ones which have stood the test of time the most.

Freddie
James
Samuel
Thomas
Joseph
Roman

My favourite is Thomas, followed by Joseph and James.

Steelworks · 18/06/2025 06:37

Good list of names. Not keen on Roman though, and has different vibe to your other, more classic names.

Mumof1andacat · 18/06/2025 06:43

If you go with Freddie, put Frederick on his birth certificate to give him choice. He might prefer Fred as a shorter name when he can choose.

loobyloo1979 · 18/06/2025 06:47

Samuel Roman

or

Roman Samuel

user1492757084 · 18/06/2025 07:31
