How does the name Anton sound to you?

I immediately think of Anton Du Beke.

Venturaventura · 13/06/2025 10:23

Dated and awful. Sorry.

Katiesaidthat · 13/06/2025 10:23

I like it.

Needmorelego · 13/06/2025 10:29

I think of a boy I was at primary school with in the 80s.
Nice lad so I think of the name as a nice one.

rbe78 · 13/06/2025 10:33

Will his middle name be Dec?

I immediately think of Anton Du Beke.

Right away ! I can't get past it.

Zebralie · 13/06/2025 10:59

Awful

Olika · 13/06/2025 11:03

I really don’t like it.

lilylooleelala · 13/06/2025 11:33

It’s a beautiful name. Rarer in England but I come across many now that I live abroad. I associate it as being a Russian/Ukranian name but I know some quite posh German families with a boy called Anton.

Coffeeishot · 13/06/2025 12:15

It sounds like there should me more to it, it isn't awful but it just isn't stand out Anthony imo would be better.

MiddleAgedDread · 13/06/2025 12:25

ooh no, i don't like it at all. It's dated and very abrupt.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 13/06/2025 12:47

The ones I know are Russian/EE. I don't love it.

nameobsessed · 13/06/2025 12:48

Oh it’s terrible, sorry!

MirandaBlu · 13/06/2025 12:58

Anton was ranked #17 in Austria, #18 in Germany, and #29 in Finland last year, so not really dated in its natural habitat. I do primarily think of it as a German-language name, though. In an English-speaking country I suppose some might wonder if a baby called Anton rather than Anthony had some German or Nordic, Baltic., parentage or heritage. Aesthetically, though, I like it better than Anthony; also not a big fan of Tony.

KayEmAy · 13/06/2025 16:52

I think it's a handsome name.

LegoAirlines · 13/06/2025 16:56

I’m sorry, I also just want to add Dec to the end.

BootballJoy · 13/06/2025 17:17

Great name. I like all variants of Anthony really. Antonio's good too.

RuthW · 13/06/2025 19:22

Lovely name

wizzywig · 13/06/2025 19:25

I think that's what Anton was going for 😀

Startthecar · 14/06/2025 01:04

It has a European feel to it and in fact it is a form of the name Anthony in many European countries, it's not massively popular but it's not totally unpopular if it suits you and your surname then it's a good name.

TheSandgroper · 14/06/2025 05:02

The Anton I knew was Italian so I suppose he was actually Antonio.
