Iris Cecilia?

How do you all feel about the flow and combination of Iris Cecilia?

Yes, I am aware of how popular Iris is becoming. However, I picked our first child’s name and always said DH could choose our second child’s name, and he won’t budge 🤣
I would fight him on it more but I do actually like the name, my only issue with it is the popularity.

We are discussing middle names, Cecilia is DH’s mother’s name so that’s what we’re leaning towards.

Opinions? Do you think there’s too much of a “ss” sound with the two names?

I think it's absolutely lovely💕

CinnamonBuns67 · 09/06/2025 15:43

I think it's gorgeous

Emanwenym · 09/06/2025 15:49

It's a bit heavy in S sounds, but middle names aren't used much, so it shouldn't matter.
Initials might be an issue e.g. ICU (I see you/Intensive Care Unit), I C Moore/Woods/...

It sounds like Ira Cecilia. It will only bother you when you say her full name out loud.
I would not use the combo.

Ida Cecilia
Ivy Cecilia
Jasmine Cecilia

Wow I really like Ida, however I’m not sure I will get DH to move from Iris.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I love it.

Moreteaandchocolate · 09/06/2025 18:51

It’s lovely 💕

Mightyhike · 09/06/2025 18:52

Lovely

DPotter · 09/06/2025 19:20

I like them both, but I don't think they work well together.

ArcticBells · 09/06/2025 19:23

Love both names but I don’t think they flow. Sorry

WitcheryDivine · 09/06/2025 19:24

When I try to say it I end up saying “Irish Cecilia” 🇮🇪

KayEmAy · 09/06/2025 20:22

It's not my style

VeryQuaintIrene · 09/06/2025 20:27

Very sibilant. Both lovely names but I'm not sure that they are good together when said out loud

Acc0untant · 09/06/2025 20:31

I don't like them, they sound very old fashioned to me but sounds like Iris is a ready made decision and Cecilia is a family name so nothing you can do there. However I think it's too many S sounds, if he's set on Iris Cecilia I'd add another middle name in there to split them up.
Something that doesn't start with an S sounds and doesn't end in an A.

Iris Jade Cecilia
Iris Charlotte Cecilia
Iris Evelyn Cecilia
Iris Willow Cecilia
Etc.

JillyGiraffe · 09/06/2025 21:16

I don’t think they really go together, but it’s extremely rare to ever tell someone your full name so it doesn’t really matter!

Emelene · 09/06/2025 21:20

I think it’s beautiful. But I do think the sounds run together, it depends if that bothers you.

AnneMarieW · 09/06/2025 21:52

It’s fine - honestly the flow of a middle name matters less than parents think, because really, how often do you say your full name outloud, rather than just seeing it written down on forms/official docs? As long as Iris Surname sounds okay when spoken aloud then you/she are good imo.

Cecilia is lovely btw but I guess if you are really that concerned, couldn’t you just add your Mums name in too? It always seems a bit odd to use one grandparents name and not the other to me and loads of people have two middle names.

cardboardvillage · 09/06/2025 22:13

Cecilia Iris is nicer

TidyAmberPoster · 09/06/2025 22:50

Separately they’re nice but this doesn’t flow at all sorry.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 09/06/2025 23:12

I like it

Inez Cecilia is also nice

Yes that’s true, the flow with our surname is lovely honestly. I guess that’s all that matters properly.

And our first baby has my mother’s name as her middle name! We always planned to honour my side with our first and his side with our second

What @AnneMarieW posted.

Check how Iris Surname sounds, then how the full name sounds.
If the surname is Smith, Sissons or Sisley, it might be too many Ss and Is.

I wouldn't add another middle name. It will be too long.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 10/06/2025 21:23

I think Iris Cecilia is lovely!

Jeschara · 10/06/2025 23:42

I like Iris Cecillia, they flow fine.

PinkyBear · 10/06/2025 23:44
