Too Many K’s ?

My husband and I really like the name Luke but our last name begins and ends with the letter K. Would anyone notice there’s 3 K’s and think of the KKK?

Lucas?
Luca?

So his name would be something like Luke Klunk for example?

Just seems very awkward and def does not roll off the tongue nicely.

I think the combo sounding off versus any KKK fears would make me say no

I don't think 3 k's is a problem visually but audibly it could be clunky, especially the k at the end of both his first and last name. I know k isn't the last letter in Luke, but it is the last sound when said aloud.

Lucas or Luca are good suggestions to avoid this, and it avoids too many ks visually too.

Something like Luke Kendrick doesn't flow very well. It sounds like Luke 'Endrick.

i think it’s fine in terms of the 3 K’s - I wouldn’t think of it as long as that’s not his initials. I love the name Luke 😊

It will sound bad.
Say the first and surnames out aloud, like they will call out often at school.

I grew up with someone with the exact same issue, his parents never considered the issue compounded by the fact both names were 4 lettters.

summerscomingsoon · 09/06/2025 13:22

it's not the 3 K's but the fact that the first and surnames merge into each other.

sheknowsitstoolate · 09/06/2025 13:23

I think the ending of the first and starting of the second name makes it weird but that would be the same for any letter/sound.

AMillionTomorrows · 09/06/2025 13:25

Don’t do it. Lucas is a nice alternative. Or Lowen, Logan, Lorcan, Levi or Lucien

Agree with PP, you should avoid the same sound at the end of the first name and beginning of the last name. My friend had this and spent years correcting people who didn’t hear the beginning of her last name (eg when arriving at appointments, restaurants, hotels, etc).

One of the reasons she changed her name on marriage. Hers was a ‘k’ sound too.

Problem is that eg Luke Kendrick is basically indistinguishable when spoken to Lou Kendrick (or indeed Luke Hendrick although appreciate this problem is surname specific!). Generally people wouldn’t say both K sounds. Likely to lead to various admin misunderstandings over the years. I wouldn’t have thought of the KKK issue though!
