Middle name for Cian

Struggling for a middle name for Cian. Surname is George.

I’m Irish heritage and my husband is Grenadian.

Possible thoughts on Samson (husbands dad’s name) or Sean who my dads name but don’t feel this flows well with Cian.

Also David which is my husbands middle name.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Cian David George sounds great to to me! Cian Samson George is good too. Sean doesn’t work with the surname George imo.

Yeah, I think you need a two or three syllable middle name when the first is Cian and surname George. That’s why Sean doesn’t work as well.

Cian is lovely although sometimes people say Keen instead of the correct Kee-un and that isn’t as nice.

Samson. It adds a bit of heft, the surname also being a first name.

cian David George works well. Alternatives:

Cian Daniel George
Cian Alexander George
Cian Henry George
Cian Thomas George
Cian Nathaniel George

Cian Matthew.
Cian Xavier.
Cian Wilbur.
Cian Oliver.
Cian Alistair.

@Rosemaryjoan Agree but you’ll also be surprised the amount of people who can’t pronounce Sean. Heard my dad get called See-un so many times lol

Also my name is Shannon but people still call me Sharon from time to time. It’s like they can’t help it lol! In my view they’ll always be someone who will get it wrong but that doesn’t put me off fortunately :)

@PanderBare
Yeah I really like Samson as a name but in this case I’ve already given his birth name of Isaac to my first son as a middle name. I feel like I’m doing my own dad a bit of a disservice if I use another one of his names. At least with David my dad also shares this middle name with husband

Give him your father's first name as a middle name. Middle names aren't used much.

itsgettingweird · 08/06/2025 19:12

My first thought was John but that’s a mouthful with George!

Middle names aren’t often used by Sean George also seems a mouthful.

Cian Samson George not so much.

Other suggestions

Cian Elliot
Cian Shane
Cian Thomas
Cian William
Cian Sebastian

I agree about using your Dad's first name, if you have a good relationship with him. Or your maiden name as a middle name?

In that case Cian David is perfect

@SoManyDandelions
I’m very close with my dad. I would like to but I feel it just doesn’t flow right next to Cian. Even if I use John which is the Hebrew variant of Sean. Again probably just a bit too short.

My middle name is Mai so doesn’t really work for a boy.

Does your surname work as a middle name?
I think that’s what pp meant.

Blacktommer · 09/06/2025 06:19

@Rosemaryjoan
Ah I see, I misread the post. No unfortunately not. It’s not like my husband’s which can be a name.

@Blacktommer , a middle name doesn't need to be a boy's name. It's quite normal to have a family surname as a middle name, for example, Adam Cavendish George or Grace Wilson Smith.

David is handsome and sounds great with Cian.
