We are having a baby boy and struggling with names! It seems like I've trawled the internet and know every name there is... I just keep seeing th same ones over and over! I feel there must be 'the one' out there that I haven't heard yet?

Me and my hubby love 1950s & America (we live in UK) so really wanting a name that fits this theme as it's what we love. We don't want it to be popular but also don't want it to be silly. Ones we like are Memphis, Phoenix, Texas
Also Reggie, Freddie, Vinnie but feel these are too popular in our area
Love old rockabilly names , also American places and ones related to rock N roll music/ cars

If anyone has any suggestions that are outside the box and we may not of heard of we would be really grateful! Thank you :)

Blues, rather than Rockabilly inspired but I did transiently considered calling my son Stevie Ray as I'm a big Stevie Ray Vaughan fan. But it sounded ridiculous with our surname and to be honest would probably have raised eyebrows in our not very cosmopolitan little village so I put it down to hormones and picked something more conventional. I do still think it's a cool name though!
I think there's something to be said for picking a name that also has more conventional options as PPs have suggested so that if "Chuck" doesn't share your enthusiasm he can be " Charlie" later on.

Eugene/Gene are great names imo and very underused.

Roscoe is also v cool.

I like Aaron but can be pronounced differently in UK Vs USA so may be issues.

Billy-Bob?

Cash or Clint. PP’s suggestion of Dustin is great.

Ignore the people saying you shouldn’t choose a name that reflects your taste. Do they really think you should choose something you don’t like? What a ridiculous suggestion.

Thinking back to my days working at a cheese American style diner where all the staff had fake American names on our uniforms the men's names were:

Wade
Danny
Sonny
Chip
Buddy

I feel like some were shortened names with a "y" on the end like:
Robbie
Ricky
Mike
Tommy
Etc

Nevertrustacop · 10/06/2025 21:09

Eugene, Ira, Wesley,

Leavetheteabaginthecup · 10/06/2025 21:16

Sonny
Jesse
Audie

If you search for WW2 American heroes you get popular names in the era, with strong back stories.
