Sounds too posh?

We're having a little boy and have narrowed it down to

Gabriel
Dante
Morgan
Reuben

We like unusual names rather than traditional names. The problem is that we already have a double-barrelled surname. Do you think our poor baby is going to sound too posh?

Like them all except Dante, which is borderline imo

Gabriel defn my fave (vetoed by my dh)

LynetteScavo · 22/05/2008 11:01

None of them too posh.

Dante not posh at all, IMO. The opposite, infact.

nailpolish · 22/05/2008 11:02

does it matter if it sounds posh?

constancereader · 22/05/2008 11:02

They don't sound posh to me, just nice.

Morgan is very popular name around here btw, you obviously don't live in Wales!

nailpolish · 22/05/2008 11:02

lots of morgans round here. but they are all girls

bundle · 22/05/2008 11:03

i know a couple of morgans and a few gabriels (one of my names but we had girls!) - i really don't like dante as it was the name of a rufty-tufty character in that dreadful bbc series waterloo road...

few reubens nr us, tend to be jewish families

funnypeculiar · 22/05/2008 11:19

My borderline is the same as lynette's btw ...

Divejaney · 22/05/2008 11:20

I suppose we could give him a more traditional middle name and then if he really hates his first name he could change.

Dante could also be Dan or Danny for short.
I love Gabriel but not that keen on Gabe!

The only Morgans I know are girls. I like Gabriel and Reuben, not so keen on Dante.

findtheriver · 22/05/2008 11:21

Yeah, Dante definitely not posh- if anything will have the opposite connotations. Isnt one of Bianca's kids called Morgan in Eastenders?? - so ditto with Dante.
Gabriel is lovely

EffiePerine · 22/05/2008 11:23

Gabriel is lovely

muggglewump · 22/05/2008 11:27

I love Gabriel and Reuben, not so keen on the others and would avoid Morgan because of the Eastenders connection

duchesse · 22/05/2008 11:27

Love Gabriel and Morgan. Like Dante quite a lot. Like Reuben, but reminds me of 35 yr old red-necked farmer in Utah or somewhere.

Fennel · 22/05/2008 11:29

I know little boy Gabriels, Reubens and Morgans. None of them are particularly posh. I like all those names.

Nancy66 · 22/05/2008 11:39

don't think any of them are too posh.

Gabriel is lovely and like Reuben too.

Dante is a bit wanky and Morgan is 'orrible.

GooseyLoosey · 22/05/2008 11:40

Would avoid Dante.

suwoo · 22/05/2008 11:49

Morgan is a chav girls name round these parts.

fannybanjo · 22/05/2008 11:52

I really really really really wanted Gabriel for a boy but everyone I mentioned it to laughed at me. LOVE IT, also like Rueben too.

belcantavinissima · 22/05/2008 11:52

love gabriel, love dante. morgan and reuben in these parts is quite chav tho

TillyScoutsmum · 22/05/2008 11:52

Gabriel is my fave. Reuben is nice. Dante - I would think borderline too posh and tend to think of Morgan as more of a girl's name

Ellbell · 22/05/2008 11:55

Love Gabriel, Reuben and Morgan. Dd2 would have been Reuben if she'd been a boy.

Would be faintly ridiculous for me to use Dante (I teach/write about the Italian poet!) so it's hard for me to judge it objectively. I don't like it as much as the other three.

kitsmummy · 22/05/2008 12:10

I think if you call him Morgan there's no chance of it sounding too posh . I do however love Gabriel and i do think that's fairly posh (but in a good way)

jkklpu · 22/05/2008 12:11

Gabriel's lovely. Rest not posh but would risk sounding like a law firm instead of a baby with double surname.
