Ted for a boy?

DF and I had decided that if our new baby is a boy we would call him Thomas but on Sunday we were chatting and got to talking about Theodore.

Now I love Theo and did also for DS but DF felt that the meaning was not good. Theodore means god's gift so Theo means "God".

If we went for this he would call the baby Ted or Teddy, I quite like it and there is always the option of him being called Theo if he grows out of being a Teddy.

What do others think?

Like it....

Sorry, what's a DF?

carolcupcake · 20/05/2008 15:48

Oh god! Hadn't realised I put that, fiance. Usually just put DP but have been on another site and they say DF, sorry!

ANOTHER SITE??? are we not enough for you?

belgo · 20/05/2008 15:50

I think Ted as a nickname for Theodore is lovely.

LaDiDaDi · 20/05/2008 15:51

I love it too.

MargaretMountford · 20/05/2008 15:53

Theo is best name ever and Ted is lovely

Ledodgy · 20/05/2008 15:53

I love it but couldn't use it as my grandad was called Ted and he wasn't very nice and don't think family would have forgiven me. I have a Thomas though.

PuppyMonkey · 20/05/2008 15:53

ohhh, fiance!!! Of course... I thought it meant friend and that you might be, you know with a friend having a baby.... I'll shut up now.

carolcupcake · 20/05/2008 15:53

PMSL Ecmo! I'm a tart, I can't help it.

Rest assured its not one of the ones with tickers, can't bear that.

Essie3 · 20/05/2008 16:14

Ted is lovely!

Sunshinemummy · 20/05/2008 16:15

I love Ted and know two of them (a Theodore and an Edward).

cornsilk · 20/05/2008 16:15

Ted not Theo. Call him Edward, then he can be Ed as well if he likes.

dizzydixies · 20/05/2008 16:16

love both Ted and Theo

carolcupcake · 20/05/2008 16:30

We can't use Edward as my nephew is called that, it doesn't get shortened though so we should be ok with Teddy. That was why we discounted it before but we both love it.

Is it too close to my nephew's name?

I like Theo but I prefer Ted/Edward.

Thaddeus would be my favourite. It could be Ted, Taddy, Theo. Thaddeus in Ireland and Poland and rare everywhere else.

largeginandtonic · 20/05/2008 16:42

Love it!

carolcupcake · 20/05/2008 16:45

I love Theodore more, and I'm reassured that everyone wouldn't faint in horror at the name Teddy being given to a baby! Wait and see, I'll have a girl and we can't agree on a girl's name AT ALL

I don't usually post in Baby names, but Ted is fab.

belgo · 20/05/2008 16:46

Theodora for a girl?
