Thomas and Matthew are my favourites. I like Peter but not keen on Pete. Benedict is nice but I prefer Benjamin. Paul feels a bit dated but could grow on me.

Cleoleo · 21/05/2025 06:27

Benedict would be my choice here.

Matthew and Thomas are classics but very over-used and feel a little dull. Paul and Peter don't feel quite ready for a revival yet - of those two, I would go for Peter.

ToadRage · 21/05/2025 09:06

I love Benedict, I am in mourning for a book character called Benedict, just finished his 30th and last book, thankfully he got his happy ending and the author didn't kill him off. Its classic but not too popular like Thomas and Matthew. Peter and Paul are nice but very dated. The only Peter i knew was my late Dad (he hated being called Pete) and the the only Paul i know is my uncle who is in his 70's.

Thomas or Matthew

Peter and Paul are now a bit dated as a pp said

I find Benedict a bit pretentious sounding

All lovely biblical names. Like Thomas the most

user2848502016 · 21/05/2025 09:11

I voted for Thomas but also like Peter (but not Pete) - you don’t hear it as much these days but it’s nice
Thomas Peter or Thomas Paul maybe?

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 21/05/2025 09:15

I prefer Benedict. I used to know two, who were really nice boys

Charlotte120221 · 21/05/2025 10:30

So Ben, Tom and Matt are all great classic solid boys names. You have to be ok with the nicknames to choose them IMO.

Matt / Matthew is pretty unusual in this generation so i would choose that.

Not keen on Peter or Paul....

3ormorecharacters · 21/05/2025 10:40

I really like Matthew, classic but not that common these days. Matt is a good nickname when he gets older and even Matty is pretty cute on a little baby / toddler. It was one of my top names but DH vetoed!

I also really like Peter. Again classic but even less common. A good solid name. (Literally, it means rock!)

PanderBare · 21/05/2025 11:04

I like all of them. I used to not like Benedict, but Pope Benedict was great, so the name is OK.
I'd pick Peter or Paul.

BoleynMemories13 · 21/05/2025 19:48

Thomas and Matthew are two of my favourite boy names! You can't beat the traditional classics. I also have a real soft spot for Peter, as it's a family name. We're big Peter Rabbit fans here too, so it's a name I think of fondly.

I prefer Benjamin to Benedict. Paul really isn't for me.

I like all of them. I think Matthew is my favourite.

CarpetKnees · 22/05/2025 00:16

Thomas
Peter
Matthew
would be my favourites, but Paul and Benedict are okayish.

Winebefore5 · 22/05/2025 07:26

Definitely Peter and not “Pete”. It didn’t occur to me that people might use Pete instead.

Im leaning towards Thomas Peter surname. I don’t have any dislikes in terms of nicknames from Thomas (Tommy, Tom, Tam) but would definitely be using his proper name.
