hi,im 24 weeks pregnant with a girl and me and dh have been trying to think of a name for her

we have shorlisted them to
sana
lana
shailah (shy-la)
hanna
avan

but now we are stuck on which one to pick,my husband is kurdush that why the names may seem unusual

lana or hanna

hanna but with an 'H' at the end.

all sound nice - like shailah best

Shy-la makes me think of the Heroes baddie (Sylar), but suspect that isn't a lasting issue

Like Lana & Avan personally. Suspect Hanna would spend life crossing off final hs...

Shailah is the prettiest.
Lana - nice, makes me think of Lana Turner (glamourous 50s Hollywood star)
Hanna - will always be misspelt as Hannah
Avan = avon lady

I would go for Hanna/Hannah. I understand that you want to reflect your husband's Kurdish background but I think you also need to find a name that English-speakers can grasp and spell without too much difficulty, or your daughter will face a lifetime of ahving to spell it to people.

I don't like Lana just because the most spoilt, selfish and annoying woman in my post-natal group called her second child that!

I like all of them except Sana - makes me think Sanaflow or sanitary!

Avan sounds masculine to me, but you can ignore me, I'm Welsh!

Shailah is definitely my fave. I know a lovely Shyla, spelt like that, and I think it's a really pretty name.

Hannah (with H on end)

When you say Sana, do you mean for it to be pronounced as in Anna? I knew a girl named Sanna prounounced like Sonna, which I think is beautiful! That would be my pick.

From you list I like Hanna. I prefer the spelling with a H on the end, but without looks fine too.
