Hello,
What do you think about the name Alya? I like the phonetics of this name very much, but I am not sure if it will be confused

It's a lovely name.
Will the pronunciation be the same as Alia (like the character in Dune) or more like the singer Aaliyah?

Cocktailsandcheese · 20/05/2025 17:12

How would you pronounce it? Ah-Leah?

Redflamingos · 20/05/2025 17:16

Lovely name

Id say Ah lee ah

GoldenRosebee · 20/05/2025 17:22

Do you mean Alaia? Like Basque name?

I do like Alya and Alaia.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 20/05/2025 17:23

How do you pronounce it? I'd say it Ah - lee - ah

TortolaParadise · 20/05/2025 17:34

Is it pronounced Isla (like Fisher)?

SophiaSW1 · 20/05/2025 17:36

I like the sound of the name but people would probably mis-spell it which would rule it out for me

welcometonewyorkitsbeenwaitingforyou · 20/05/2025 17:37

How do you say it? I read it as ‘al - ya’ which doesn’t sound either nice or correct

PansyPottering · 20/05/2025 17:39

I’d say al yah

I would not say an ee sound in the middle because I can’t see one.

WtafIsThat · 20/05/2025 19:46

Al-yah? I fail to see how it can be Aleeyah.

Goodgrashus · 20/05/2025 19:49

Don’t know it as a name, would you pronounce it Aliyah? As in to make Aliyah?

Moreteaandchocolate · 20/05/2025 20:01

I like it (assuming it’s pronounced a-LEE-a, or a-LIE-a, not ALya!) People will mispronounce it if they read it before they hear it though.

BoleynMemories13 · 20/05/2025 21:30

Those questioning pronunciation, there's an Alya in Coronation Street if anyone watches? It sounds more like Ally-ah to me, rather than the long ee sound in Aliyah (Ah-lee-ah).

It's nice enough, but definitely subject to pronunciation and spelling issues as there are so many similar variations. I've seen it spelt Alia and Aalia too, before you even get in to the many different spelling variations of Aliyah.

Bluebunnylover · 20/05/2025 21:47

I would pronounce it al-ya which doesn’t trip off the young easily

Me too. When you say it that way it sounds like “oh yeah”

Mandarinaduck · 20/05/2025 23:31

It's nice and an easy name to say and spell, while being quite unusual (in the UK). So I think it's a good choice.

abracadabra1980 · 20/05/2025 23:34

Nice 😊

HouseCaptain · 20/05/2025 23:45

I’m really sorry but I don’t like it at all, it sounds as if it’s wannabe exotic.
