We've decided on a middle name - but how to spell it ?!?!

We both love the name Anabel so it's in! However I have no idea how to spell it as there are so many ways.

MN jury, which one do you think is best? What is the most regular way of spelling it??

  1. Annabelle (too poncy?)
  2. Annabell
  3. Anabel (not finished??)
  4. Anabell
  5. Anabelle (weird?)

I quite like Arabel

but would spell Anabelle with the belle on the end as it's beautiful

Anastasia is lovely also?

yomellamoHelly · 20/05/2008 13:10

Annabel too. Pretty name.

VictorianSqualor · 20/05/2008 13:11

Arabel? I've only ever heard that name as Arabella, not Arabel, I don't like it without the 'ella' bit, love Arabella though.

VintageGardenia · 20/05/2008 13:14

Nope don't you remember Mortimer and Arabel?

edam · 20/05/2008 13:17

The night club is actually called Annabel's, btw - so another point for the usual spelling!

CountessDracula · 20/05/2008 13:19

nappies

ffs i have emailed you like 9 MILLION TIMES

I couldn't have Arabella - Arabella Figg is the batty old squib in Harry Potter, she is acutally an hilarious character, but she's also a cat lady and I don't want to name my baby after a cat lady, she will probably turn into one without my help but it seems a little mean to put her on the path so early!

I sit next to an Ana at work so I think I got a bit confussed there.

I think Annabelle is a little poncy so I'm with Brassica (or whatever she chooses to namechange to!) on that one.

I think Annabel is probably the way to go (thank you Squonk - leader of the pack!!), I don't want her getting asked how to spell it all the time, that's why I made the post, as I certainly don't know!

Oh sod it, I thought I'd never do this, but this is going to be her full name:

Elizabeth Annabel (and then the surname starts with an Sp).

Ponce-o-rama or not too bad?

onebatmother · 20/05/2008 13:24

No, lovely, lollipop. Elizabeth is beautiful and Annabel brings a bit of girliness, ikswim. V good together.

Christiania · 20/05/2008 13:26

I'm going nuts trying to guess the surname now. As long as it isn't Spankbottom you should be alright

fryalot · 20/05/2008 13:26

Lovely, lollipop

Christiania · 20/05/2008 13:26

Really like Elizabeth btw, it's very good.

Christiania · 20/05/2008 13:27

Oh God please tell me I didn't guess right

ButterflyBessie · 20/05/2008 13:31

Surely it will be Sparkleybottom

Have you thought of Amabel?

lollipopmother · 20/05/2008 13:31

No you didn't guess right Christiania but I did just snort out some of my Sprite!

And it's NOT Sprite either, so don't think I'm trying to giving you a clue!

lollipopmother · 20/05/2008 13:33

Oh God, I LOVE Sparkleybottom!

Elizabeth Annabel Sparkleybottom Sp .... has an amazing ring (no bum-pun intended!) to it!

Swedes · 20/05/2008 13:33

Very good choice. I love Elizabeth.

Thank you everyone who said they are nice names, I feel rather smug now!

AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2008 14:15

If I was English, I'd spell it Annabel and if I was French I'd spell it Annabelle. Same goes for Isabel vs. Isabelle.

AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2008 14:16

Oh, and I think Elizabeth is poncier than Annabel.

lollipopmother · 20/05/2008 14:27

I don't think Elizabeth is poncy, but I did wonder whether the two together might be a bit poncy. Mind you, I do come from Oxford dharrrrling so poncy would fit in well!

OP posts:
AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2008 14:56

I don't know, you don't get much poncier than the queen herself.

But, I have a suster Elizabeth and she's not poncy at all.

Swedes · 20/05/2008 14:58

Elizabeth is not poncy. Middle names are meant to be a bit poncy, aren't they? Either that or used in a persuasive fashion....in reasonable contemplation of a not inconsiderable inheritance from Aunt Ethel. Trouble is this often backfires when Ethel leaves her fortune to the Cats' Protection League and appoints Elizabeth Ethel as an Executor to make sure her wishes are carried out. Gah.

Elizabeth Annabel is really lovely.
