Choosing a baby name, thoughts on Caleb!?

TaupeLion · 16/05/2025 13:58

It's our first baby and just wanting to put the feelers out on the name Caleb.
With not being in the 'mums club' before, and not having many friends with little ones, we're not really knowing what's popular out there (other than baby lists) but it's been on our radar since finding out we are having a boy 💙
Other names we are still considering:

Jamie
Noah
Greyson
Dale
Alfie

Thanks 😊

I love Caleb and have 3 sons but exh didn’t like it. it’s my Westies name now.

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/05/2025 15:06

I really like it - I have three children across three different schools and don’t know of any round us.

ZebraPrintt · 16/05/2025 15:18

I'm not keen on Caleb, no idea why! But I love Jamie, noah and Alfie

Goandygo · 16/05/2025 15:19

I love it.
I don't really like your other names.

TheodoraCrumpet · 16/05/2025 15:20

I like Caleb. Jamie and Noah, not so much. Alfie is a dog's name.

HobnobsChoice · 16/05/2025 15:21

I like it. It means faithful and is from the Hebrew word Kelev which means dog so is also a good name for westue

Whoarethoseguys · 16/05/2025 15:22

I think Caleb is lovely and my favourite of your choices. My next favourite is Noah but I think that is quite popular.. Jaimie is ok but I prefer James, I'm not keen on the others

DamnitCarol · 16/05/2025 15:49

I have one so I’m biased, but I have had nothing but people admiring his name since birth!

BoleynMemories13 · 16/05/2025 16:23

I like Noah the best on your list. Many on here will say avoid that as it's the current number one name so it's too popular. Thing is, popularity differs from area to area and I know as many boys called Caleb as I do Noah!

Caleb is ok. It's a name I don't have great associations with personally, as some of the ones I know are real pains, but that's no reason for you not to use it.

thornbury · 16/05/2025 16:27

I taught a Caleb around 2007 in Yr 2. One of the most annoying children ever 🤣 Also very bright and probably went on to do great things. If he'd been ordinary, I'd have forgotten him by now.

LightDrizzle · 16/05/2025 16:29

I love it, it’s strong, sturdy and reliable. I think of Caleb Garth from Middlemarch.

Firsttimebabymummy · 16/05/2025 17:59

I like it. Don't like any others in your list except Jamie.

PurpleReindeer2 · 16/05/2025 18:14

Caleb. Like it. 🥰

PurpleChrayn · 16/05/2025 18:16

Not a huge fan. The “leb” makes me feel a bit queasy. Makes me think of milk blebs.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 16/05/2025 18:28

Horrible name. Reminds me of a Deliverance type backwoodsman.

I have a Caleb in our family and he's adorable- whether he will grow into a Deliverance style Hill Billy is yet to be seen hahahaha

What is a milk bleb? Never heard that phrase

Horrible name. Reminds me of a Deliverance type backwoodsman.

I can only hear it in a hillbilly kind of drawl, and this is probably why!

That's so funny as we're from an area with the least "drawly" accent we're renowned for speaking fast and it's a very marmite love it or hate it Northern accent 🤣

Emanwenym · 16/05/2025 18:43

East of Eden

CurlewKate · 16/05/2025 18:49

I do think at the moment you need to be careful names that identify with either side in the conflict in the Middle East-unless you want to do that.

Emanwenym · 16/05/2025 20:32

Oh dear, all those youngsters with Old Testament names...

Marchintospring · 16/05/2025 21:17

I only know annoying Calebs although not stupid.
All the Jamie’s and Alfie’s have been sweet but thick as mince.

Don’t like the other names at all. tBH they all sound a bit dated - popular about 10 years ago

Congratulations on your first though !

MostlyGhostly · 16/05/2025 21:38

I like it and it will suit a Scouse accent 🙂

DramaAlpaca · 16/05/2025 21:42

It's nice. I much prefer it to the other names on the list.
