Names too similar?

I’m due my 3rd girl in September this year and I’m really stressing about names. My first little girl is called Delilah, she was stillborn at 36 weeks 👼🏼 then my 2nd little girl is called Dottie Delilah, we wanted to tribute her big sister within her name. For this little girl I really love the name Lylah/lilah (unsure which spelling I’d use) but is it too much to use this name? Nothing and no one could ever replace my little Delilah and I don’t want to use that name and everyone think I’m overdoing it and trying to replace my little girl.

what does everyone think?

I personally wouldn't.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

dontcomeatme · 12/05/2025 19:06

I think it's too similar, sorry OP 🫶

Krakinou · 12/05/2025 19:11

Yes, way too similar. Do you like Daisy?
I’m really sorry for your loss.

Trundleloop · 12/05/2025 19:13

So sorry @Bunny26 - what about Lyra? It’s similar to Lylah but I think different enough from Delilah.

Comedycook · 12/05/2025 19:14

Very sorry for your loss...yes I think maybe it sounds a little too similar I'm afraid.

What about Layla or Lyra?

Overthebow · 12/05/2025 19:16

Sorry OP it’s pretty much the same name. It’s probably better to go with something completely different.

Blackcountrychik83 · 12/05/2025 19:17

Could you use Lilah or even Delilah for her middle name and maybe you could use Lilah instead of her first name recorded on her bc . I know quite a few people with the same middle names as siblings so I don’t know why this wouldn’t work .

Firsttimebabymummy · 12/05/2025 19:19

How about Layla?

BoleynMemories13 · 12/05/2025 19:30

Obviously it's a very personal choice, but Lilah is often a short form of Delilah so it could seem like you're practically giving them the same name. Personally I wouldn't.

Lilah could be a nice link as a middle name?

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/05/2025 19:47

I think it’s fine, but I’d spell it Lila or Lyla to differentiate from Lilah (short for Delilah).

Eenameenadeeka · 12/05/2025 20:30

I am so very sorry for your loss. I do think the name is too similar as it's the common nickname but whatever feels right for you.

user1492757084 · 13/05/2025 02:43

I think it is too close.
Could you use some of the letters in Delilah's name or use her second name as the new baby's second name?

Adele
Heidi
Ella
Edie
Ida
Lila
Aila

pincklop · 13/05/2025 03:11

If you think your new baby will be happy growing up with that name then it’s fine. Lyla is a beautiful name, but you don’t have a Delila and a Lyla

Dustyblue · 13/05/2025 03:14

I'm so very sorry your little Delilah died. Did she have a middle name?

roshi42 · 13/05/2025 04:57

Going against the grain, I think Lilah (prefer that spelling) is a lovely name and it would be nice for her to have that connection with both her sister whose middle name is Delilah and her oldest sister. People rarely use their middle names so no one else would know the connection, it would just be something private for her to know - equally she wouldn’t have to say about her oldest sister unless she wanted. Dottie and Lilah are great sibling names! Obviously it’s important she doesn’t feel like a replacement, but I’m sure you wouldn’t make her feel that way, as I’m sure little Dottie doesn’t, and tbh names would be the least of the problem if they were feeling that way. I’d go for it! And so sorry for your loss x

Goandygo · 13/05/2025 05:29

At first I was going to say too similar, but @roshi42 has convinced me otherwise.
So sorry for your loss ❤️

I personally don’t think it’s too much, but if you’re leaning that way, what about Dahlia?
