Which girls name?

Baby number 2 due next week and we can't decide which name to go with ahh!

I've listed our (current) final choices below and would appreciate your votes or any other suggestions of names you think we might like.

Big sister is called Lilia (middle name Rose) so needs to go with that too.

TIA :)

Edie (mn Grace) - it would just be Edie, not Edith.

Eva (mn Grace)

Penelope (think this sounds cute with Lilia and lots of choices for nicknames)

Lucia (is it too similar to Lilia?)

Lena - just heard this and added to the list. Thoughts?

Also considering the more popular "Isla".

I voted Penelope, but Lena and Lucia fit with Lilia better... it's just that they might be too similar to Lilia, with Eva and Penelope fitting better after names such as Lena and Lucia.

other ideas
Lilia and Anouk
Lilia and Danae
Lilia and Felicity - Felicity doesn't seems overly long
Lilia and Sibyl/Sylvie/Sybil
Lilia and Cecily
Lilia and Polina
Lilia and Juliet

I like Eva the best. I'm not a fan of the full name Penelope, but I agree it goes well and I do like Nell a lot as a short form.

Edie is a bit too nicknamey for me and it does get misheard as Evie a lot.

I would avoid another L name, personally, although Lucia is lovely as an individual name. I'm much less keen on Lena.

Mumofgirls2017 · 10/05/2025 11:49

I voted Edie but prefer full name- how about Eden? I think it’s lovely.

second choices would be Penelope and Eva also lovely, I’d avoid repeating initials if possible and Lucia too similar for me.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/05/2025 11:51

Lucia.
Penelope is too fussy.
Isla too common and I don't like the others

Moreteaandchocolate · 10/05/2025 11:55

Eva and Lena are my favourites - both gorgeous. I voted for Eva as it needs no spelling or pronunciation explanations- Lena could get lea-na or Lay-na (I prefer Lay-na). However, Lena is much more unusual and so I was really torn between them!

Penelope is a close third - also lovely and as you say, so many nn options. I just personally prefer shorter names, where you are usually known by your full name day to day.

Edie is lovely but could be misheard as the super popular Evie.

Isla - lovely but very popular

Lucia - pronunciation variations - I like the Loo-SEE-a pronunciation but she might Loo-sha or Loo-Chee-a, which I’m not keen on. Also I feel like she’s more likely to be know as Lou or Loose day to day than Lucy would be, as it’s a 3 syllable name.

Wigtopia · 10/05/2025 11:58

I like Edie but prefer the spelling Eadie

BootballJoy · 10/05/2025 12:35

Eva, Lena and Penelope all lovely.

Mama052025 · 10/05/2025 13:59

Thank you for your replies.

I said Lucia to my friend the other day and she replied with the "Loo-Chee-a" pronunciation rather than "Loo-see-a" so that worried me a bit!

Need more time to think about Lena as I only came across it the other day when searching the royals and realised it is Zara Tindall's little girls name. It is sweet but might be too similar to Lilia.

I really like Lilia ! And also Adria (I know it's not in your post, it just made me think of it !)

My fav in your list is Lucia - international, lovely meaning, beautiful name. It is however quite close to Lilia. But I don't know if that's enough to give up on it.

Lena and Edie are diminutives and I'm not, personally, keen on diminutives as full names. I also have this vision of Elena/Lena being extremely common and a bit boring. I do like Alanna/Alayna which is similar though.

Penelope is a bit fussy for my taste.

Eva is the opposite, I find it too short and simple. She'll potentially be lost amidst all the Evie that were so popular recently.

Tough choice ! Please let us know which you pick I'm invested now 😂

Maxorias · 10/05/2025 14:14

As for the different pronounciations of Lucia I wouldn't let that bother me. There WILL be differences, whatever name you choose, depending on people's accents and languages. My son is a Mathias, in my mother tongue he's Matt-yass (two syllables), in the country where we live he is Ma-tee-yass (three syllables), and in english he's Math-eye-as. I like all three and he prefers to be called Matty anyway.

Maxorias · 10/05/2025 14:22

Just to add, saw the name Alessia on another thread and it would solve both the proximity to Lilia and the Loo-see-a/Loo-chee-a problems.

LilyJosephine · 10/05/2025 23:25

Classic Eva sounds best with Lilia imo, both quite international. Although I like similar Elena with Lilia even more (rather than just Lena which always seems more like a nn for Elena/Helena, Magdalena etc).

I think Lucia is a bit too much with Lilia - same initial plus same ending too is a bit twin like.

I have an irrational dislike for Penelope (it’s the “pee” sound) and it’s a very different style to Lilia to me.

Edie is nice enough but quite trendy and again, a different style to me than Lilia.

(I’d probably expect Lilia’s sister to have a similarly flowing, international sounding name - Anna/Anya, Eva, Nina, Rosa, Maria, Maya, Natalia, Antonia, Marina, Alicia, Isabella, Elena/Helena, Sofia, Julia, Claudia, Selena etc)

NuffSaidSam · 10/05/2025 23:32

Penelope is by far the nicest imo. Lilia and Nell is very cute!

Edie is sweet on a little girl, but I don't think it screams high court judge/doctor/adult woman.

Eva and Isla are both far too popular.

Lucia and Lena are both too similar to Lilia. I would also pronounce Lucia as Loo-chee-uh and not Loo-see-uh.

JillyGiraffe · 11/05/2025 08:58

I chose Eva, but also like Penelope (nn Penny). I personally prefer names that ‘go’ but aren’t samey.

user1492757084 · 12/05/2025 15:50

With Lilia I would stay away from i sounds and names starting with L.

Lilia and ..
Grace Penelope
Penelope Grace
Eve Lucia
