Like it! Nice tie with siblings too.

I have an Alice who is sometimes Ally or Ally Pally (in honour of a book character, who was named after the Alexandra Palace). She is lovely, so it's a yes from me!

Alice and Allie are sweet
.
Are Molly and Allie too alike?
Alice could also be Alice, Alls, Al

CarpetKnees · 08/05/2025 16:18

I don't think I've met an Alice that goes by 'Ali / Allie'. I mean, it changes the sound of the 'i' and doesn't change the number of syllables. I think if you are looking for 'Ali' it is more likely to naturally come from Alison.
Alices generally stay as Alice.

That said, nick names usually arrive organically from things the child says or does or mispronounces (or a sibling mispronounces), not from parents' ideas pre-birth.

DorisTheFinkasaurus · 08/05/2025 16:25

Aww Alice is lovely and it works so well with the siblings’ names.

StrongandNorthern · 08/05/2025 16:34

Beautiful, timeless name.

I suppose like Oliver, Ollie.

Yes, Allie is usually Alison for our generation. But DD's friend has a sister Alice who is Ali.

DelurkingAJ · 08/05/2025 16:37

I’m an Alice who goes by Ali at home and to some friends (depends when they met me…DH calls me Ali so anyone who knows me through him starts there). I like my name and the nickname (although it’s more a diminutive isn’t it)?!

penelopemoneypenny · 08/05/2025 16:45

does it matter that you would have two girls with ‘A’ names and one without?

Alice is a beautiful name. My fiend is an Alice but we call her ‘lissy’

Moreteaandchocolate · 08/05/2025 17:00

Lovely! My Alice insists on her full name though 😂

RA1988 · 08/05/2025 17:43

@Moreteaandchocolate my Ava insists on Ava when we try and call her Ave! So she might be the same!!

Agree!

monktasmic · 08/05/2025 19:10

My Alice goes by Al.

AllPlayedOut · 08/05/2025 19:11

Alice is lovely but Allie is not.

BoleynMemories13 · 08/05/2025 19:23

I love Alice and I like the nickname.

Personally I wouldn't have two A names though, but obviously it's up to you.

BebbanburgIsMine · 08/05/2025 20:08

Alice is so pretty

I hate shortened names, and both me and DD1 insist on our full names.

DD2 has a four letter name that can’t be shortened.

I'm an Alice.
I'm mostly Alice, occasionally Al. Only my siblings call me Ali. In my age group (50s) Alison is a far more common name than Alice, and Ali is a very common pet form of that of course.

mummysmagicmedicine · 09/05/2025 09:00

I know an Alice who goes by Ally and it suits her so much

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 10/05/2025 03:11

The allie’s I know are actually Alexandra, could that be an option?
