Amber is lovely

Naomi is nice but people pronouncing it differently (Nay-omi or Nigh-omi) would annoy me

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 07/05/2025 20:50

Congratulations! I voted Amber as there’s no debate on pronunciation. Both nice names.

Cynic17 · 07/05/2025 20:53

Not keen on either, tbh, but absolutely nobody can pronounce Naomi correctly - it's always mangled.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 07/05/2025 20:57

I love Naomi

Really don’t like Amber for some reason

ALittleBitWooo · 07/05/2025 21:00

I’ve never met anyone who has pronounced the name Naomi as Nay oh mi. I think it’s a lovely name.

Bunnyisputbackinthebox · 07/05/2025 21:37

Ime Amber will stay Amber..
Naomi will become Nomes.... Urgh..

Awrite · 07/05/2025 21:39

I prefer Naomi.

SkaneTos · 07/05/2025 21:44

Both are beautiful names.

I voted for Amber.

This but also the which syllable gets stressed issue. NIGH-o-mi and Nigh-O-mi would do my head in. Nay-o-mi/Nah-o-mi are nice.

DrunkBogan · 07/05/2025 22:04

The name Amber always makes me think of a fat person no idea why. Naomi sounds whiny and nasal but prefer to Amber!

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/05/2025 23:02

I like both names. I’d pick Amber as it avoids the pronunciation variations.

Pemba · 08/05/2025 02:11

Naomi - it seems more classic.

Firsttimebabymummy · 08/05/2025 06:59

I voted Amber! Don't like Naomi.

I think Amber is a lovely name.

Both lovely. I have a friend who was always called 'Nay'.
Also nice are

Leoni
Elodie
Bryony

ToadRage · 08/05/2025 09:22

Both are pretty but i voted for Amber, i like Naomi but as someone before mentioned the pronunciation is an issue. A friend of mine used to get so frustrated with people saying it 'wrong', she was Nay-oh-mi with the accent on the Nay and another had a go at me for saying the it the afore-mentioned way when hers was with the accent on the Oh.

Hoolahoophop · 08/05/2025 09:33

I know two of each lovely Naomi's and Ambers.

The Naomi's tend to come from well to do families and peruse careers in arts, literature, or professional roles. My Naomi's are potentially a bit ditzy, read a lot and like to arrange flowers and craft to relax. They are most likely to take care of friends mental well being listening, talking, caring.

The Amber's tend to have worked their way up into equally successful careers, but less arts and literature, more science technology and administrative. My Ambers are practical and no-nonsense they work hard and play hard, like holidays exploring new territory. They tend to support their friends in practical ways, organizing and problem solving.

Can't go wrong with either in my opinion. But on the sound of the name alone - I'd probably choose Naomi at a pinch.

Mandarinaduck · 08/05/2025 13:24

Both lovely names. If pushed to choose I’d go with Naomi.

user1492757084 · 08/05/2025 16:01

I voted Amber.
Bright, A is a great letter, confident, not common.
I love the colour amber - it's warm.

BorgQueen · 08/05/2025 16:04

Amber is still fairly unusual, my DD is 35 and it’s as uncommon now as it was then in the UK.
She’s taught 100’s of kids in the last decade but never another Amber.

JessyCarr · 08/05/2025 18:35

Amber for me is associated with my late godmother, born in the 1940s. She was sophisticated, intelligent, gracious - a lovely Amber. Easy choice for me.

Escapingagain · 08/05/2025 20:23

Amber is pretty and not common.
Naomi I associate with women similar age to myself as I know a few. (Forties) Nice enough but not as lovely as Amber.

This is how I would pronounce Naomi.

Amber is nice but I have American friends who consider it as “stripper name”. I do not but that would make me pause before using it.

Rainbow1235 · 10/05/2025 17:43

Love amber

bleepingbleepybleep · 10/05/2025 18:10

I know a Naomi, and it has put me right off the name
