Opinions on these names - and which is your preferred name and why?

I prefer Adaline

I know an Elara and an Eliara. To me they just get muddled up with all of the many Ellie type and Lara, Lyra, Lara type names.

Adaline is a lot stronger to me and a less ubiquitous sound

Editing to fix typo!

Adaline, it's both old timey and a bit different and up to date. I know an Adaline and she's a lovely girl :) It has a storybook quality to it but coukd also be simplified to Ada, which I also love. Its a name for all seasons and reasons basically 😆

Shouldntbutdo · 05/05/2025 20:06

They both sound like medications? Sorry

Tulipsontoast · 05/05/2025 20:07

Adeline is much nicer. I also love Emmeline.

user2848502016 · 05/05/2025 20:11

Not keen on Elara
Adaline is pretty

Lancrelady80 · 05/05/2025 20:24

Sorry, but I think both are awful. Of the two, Adaline is better. Be prepared for "Ad" or "Addie" as shortening though.

Elara is likely to be misheard throughout her life as Lara or Clara (in fact, my phone just "auto-corrected" it to that.)

There's the film The Age of Adaline too.

shoopshoopdedoo · 05/05/2025 20:27

I don’t really like either, but would probably pick Adeline if I had to choose.

Love Lara - would that be an option?!

Marble10 · 05/05/2025 20:29

i had Alara on my girls list, so I vote Elara.

I also like Ailara (eye-later-uh) but it doesn’t sound good with our accent, if only we were some classy Italians 😅

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/05/2025 22:22

I really like both. Elara is very pretty and suits all ages well, plus it has nice nn options (Ellie / Lara) if she wants. Adaline is also lovely and stands out from all the softer sounding names containing L and / or ending in a that are popular at the moment. I really like Addie for short too. I think I’d pick Elara as that’s the name I’d rather be called myself 😊

Ikeameatballs · 05/05/2025 22:25

Much prefer Adaline

SunnySydeUp · 05/05/2025 22:29

Spell it Adeline, looks more feminine somehow!

tiredbuttried · 05/05/2025 22:40

Adaline but only if spelt Adeline. I don’t like nn Ada at all, Adie Is cute though.

Adaline is the better of the two but I don't like it.
Lara is nice but I don't like Elara.

PomegranateVase · 06/05/2025 17:00

They’re both lovely names, but I love Adeline.

okydokethen · 06/05/2025 17:02

Elara is my preference out of the two. Never sure how to say Adaline

BoleynMemories13 · 06/05/2025 17:25

Neither are really for me. I do love Lara though, I just find Elara unnecessarily fussy. Elora is pretty.

I like Ada, but again find Adaline quite fussy.

Blueplu · 06/05/2025 18:11

Why do people comment to say they don’t like either ?

Chersfrozenface · 06/05/2025 18:15

How is Adaline pronounced?

Like the name Ada then line like railway line?

Or like adder then line like railway line?

Or like adder then lean?

lurkerchan · 06/05/2025 19:41

Adaline (not the line pronunciation). Prettier in my opinion and more sophisticated. Elara is a bit of a mouthful in comparison.

I say it like adder-lean (in non rhotic accent)

mummysmagicmedicine · 06/05/2025 21:31

Adaline. Agree with pp too many el and Lara -y names xx

Enko · 06/05/2025 21:34

Of the 2 I prefer Elara..

I follow a couple of you tubers who both have Adalines due to that I see it as an up and coming name.

gertrudebiggles · 06/05/2025 22:53

I really like Elara and think it will gain in popularity soon. Very pretty
