Boys name choice

Really struggling with boy names for our third child due in June. We already have a boy and a girl, both with quite traditional names. We generally like more classic names but prefer ones that aren’t super popular. Any similar suggestions welcome too. Thanks in advance!

From your list, I like Benjamin and Thomas. Austin is OK. Not keen on Jonah and Laurence/Laurie. Wilbur makes me think of a pig.

What's your surname like? First letter, number of syllables.

I love Thomas and Benjamin, and like Jonah, Austin and Laurence. Not keen on Wilbur.

I only like Benjamin and Thomas from your list. I do really like them though and had both on my boys list! Would depend if you prefer Tom/ Tommy or Ben as would most likely be shortened.

I think all the names on your list are great names!

I voted for Wilbur, I like the name and I think it's quite unusual.

Thomas for me - but then I like an international, timeless classic and don’t care much about popularity as such (I’d say names like William, Alexander, James, Daniel, Joseph etc are on the same lines as Thomas but I’m assuming you’ve already discounted those).

Benjamin is nice enough but personally blah for me and while Laurence (Laurie) is lovely and traditional, it seems surprisingly trendy right now (or at least Laurie is, I’ve met a couple at toddler groups).

Your other picks dont scream currently underused classic to me (Jonah and Austin are too trendy for me and Wilbur is still a bit nerdy imo, though similar Wilfred has comeback cool) - names like John, Robert, Nicholas, Owen, Nathaniel, Peter etc would fit in that category for me.

I like Benjamin best from your list.

My favourites from your list are Austin and Laurence.

I'm not keen on Jonah or Wilber.

Laurence/ Laurie…I have a son with this name and it fits so well for any boy from any background! My lovely Laurie smashed his academic career but if he had an apprentice job it is equally a fine name.

DramaAlpaca · 05/05/2025 01:27

I voted for Laurence. But honestly, anything but Wilbur. Please don't do that to a child.

Hattie1106 · 05/05/2025 03:10

Thanks all, really helpful feedback and some good other suggestions I’ll consider. Wilbur is my husband’s suggestion so I’m not too worried it’s not a popular one! 🤣

I LOVE the name Wilbur so much but my husband wouldn't let me use it haha.

EllasNonny · 05/05/2025 06:19

My first thought with Wilbur was pig too.

I like Laurence (but not Laurie tbh) and Jonah the best from your list. Thomas and Benjamin are OK, don't like Wilber.
