Ruby or Amber. I also like Vivienne.

Wholikesbakedalaska · 27/04/2025 22:53

Before my DS was born Vivienne was one of the names I'd thought about if he'd been a girl. So I like that but not as much as I did back then.
I knew a miniature schnauzer called Ruby so for me that's now a dogs name.
I voted for Amber as I think that's a lovely name, despite Amber Heard.

SkaneTos · 27/04/2025 23:10

They are all good names!
I voted for Ines.

Annialisting · 27/04/2025 23:13

Where is the list?

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 27/04/2025 23:13

I love Ines - elegant, simple, underused

I really like Merrie short for Meredith or Merryn but not as is (too much pressure)

I like Vivienne but it’s v popular

Ruby is sparky but has been way overused

I don’t like Amber for some reason

Oh I'm one of the tiny percent that voted for Merrie! Although like a previous person said, it's be nicer if shorter for Merryn or something.
It's so jolly and happy sounding, (obviously!)

I thought Ines was a boys name, I've since learned on here it is not, but it still seems masculine to me. Is it pronounced Inn-iss/ess?

Ruby was over done for me about 10 years ago. Might not be so all over the country.

Vivienne is still way to old fashioned and dowdy to me, it's a nice enough name though. In fact it's growing on me as i type this.

Amber is a bit naughty girl from the 90's to me, but a nice enough name..

Emanwenym · 28/04/2025 12:09

Ines - like
Ruby - it's ok
Vivienne - don't like Viv, Vivi is awful
Merrie - awful
Amber - like

Emanwenym · 28/04/2025 13:11

Not that it stops them being pleasant names, of course, but Ruby was #1 in 2007.

LilyJosephine · 28/04/2025 14:38

Had to go for Amber as I much prefer the simpler Vivien or Vivian spelling (like Vivien Leigh). I don’t think it needs extra frills, unless you are French heritage.

Emanwenym · 28/04/2025 16:17

Vivien is OK, but Vivian is a man's name

Vivien is OK, but Vivian is a man's name

I’ve seen Vivian used for both sexes on older people- likely because it’s closer to the original Latin (indeed apparently Vivien Leigh was originally called Vivian). But there are so few male Vivian’s about now that I really doubt either spelling would cause confusion - people these days will assume female. It’s as rare as meeting a male Evelyn/Hillary/Lindsay/Leslie - whatever the original masculine/feminine of Vivian/Vivien, Lindsey/Lindsay, Leslie/Lesley etc the names tend to rarely be found anymore on men unless they are elderly.

Emanwenym · 29/04/2025 07:42

I know male and female Adrians, @LilyJosephine , but I still would think Adran was a man, and that a woman would spell it as Adrien. FWIW, the Adriennes I know say it as Ad-ree-enn, but that might be regional.

MonkeyTennis34 · 29/04/2025 07:50

Sorry but for me, Vivienne sounds like the male Vivian from the Young Ones.
Amber is unusual, I like it.
