My dh and I have wildly differing opinions on how this name will be perceived by others. Could you tell me what you think of it?

I like it

cornsilk · 17/05/2008 20:02

I think it's pretentious. Sorry.

hotCheeseBurns · 17/05/2008 20:02

I think it's pretty.

constancereader · 17/05/2008 20:03

No, don't apologise.
I want to know!

RustyBear · 17/05/2008 20:03

Looks like MN has wildly differing opinions too....

norkmaiden · 17/05/2008 20:04

I like it.

Hulababy · 17/05/2008 20:04

I like it; pretty name.

FairyMum · 17/05/2008 20:05

I think India Knight.

cornsilk · 17/05/2008 20:05

I think I went off it due to a tellytubby video my ds had. There was a section when a girl who was really stage schoolish came on and said, 'My names India, let's dance'. Put me right off.

amner · 17/05/2008 20:05

Nah..............

tortoise · 17/05/2008 20:06

My DS2's friend is called India.
It is ok as a name but not something i would choose.

Thanks for your opinions. We both think it is a nice name but I think what I really want to know is

old fashioned/eighteenth century name

OR

sixties type hippy name (like Saffron for example)

yummy mummy / boden wearer name

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 17/05/2008 20:10

I love it.

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 17/05/2008 20:11

Saffron...ish

TotalChaos · 17/05/2008 20:11

Nice.

KateF · 17/05/2008 20:11

I love it,it's the name I never got to use. I think it's a bit "alternative"/"hippyish" and it would have been perfect for dd2 (who is actually called Susannah)

DarthVader · 17/05/2008 20:12

iNDIA hICKS was Princess Di's bridesmaid

It is one of those names that used to be upper class and has now become widely used by everyone. In my eyes it used to be unusual and exotic in the 80's but is now a bit naff

sorry but you did ask and that is my honest opinion

LaDiDaDi · 17/05/2008 20:12

I like it, definitely makes me think bit Saffromnish but I definitely like it.

Probably had its day really.

How about something more avant garde like Antarctica?

Don't be tempted by something like Tuscany though, it doesn't sound great being yelled out frantically at top volume in Next (Tuscany had made a bid for freedom with her sister Liberty - I kid you not.)

nickytwotimes · 17/05/2008 20:15

My cousin's lo is called India.
They are total bohos - he's an art restorer and she's a gallery owner. They are pretty typical 'India' parents imho!

constancereader · 17/05/2008 20:16

Don't worry about expressing your honest opinions ladies, especially as they tend to agree with mine.

My dh just has the two hundred year old connotations rather than the contemporary ones.

I do like it as a name, it is just the associations that put me off.
