My dh and I have wildly differing opinions on how this name will be perceived by others. Could you tell me what you think of it?

And don't forget the 'hilarious' replies you'll spend a lifetime laughing at every time you ask where the child is...

penpotEca · 17/05/2008 20:18

I love it. It's beautiful and exotic.

penpotEca · 17/05/2008 20:20

Ahh, didn't think of that pixel.

Gingerbear · 17/05/2008 20:21

I like it - hippy-ish.
I know an Indigo - a little blonde blue eyed chubby 4 yr old who is really, really not a deep blue dye.

tribpot · 17/05/2008 20:21

I think of it as old-fashioned rather than boho. I like it.

ivykaty44 · 17/05/2008 20:22

Secrets by Jaqualine Wilson has a main character as India - a girl with long red hair and tubby due to eating to much choolate, no frinds and a big fan of Ann Frank.

BettySpaghetti · 17/05/2008 20:23

There are 3 India's in a (small)school near us -they're all aged 8-10 -so quite popular.

I met a baby Asia the other day - if I had to choose I'd prefer India as a name

RainyWednesday · 17/05/2008 23:43

Borderline pretentious but I actually quite like it

kitson08 · 18/05/2008 00:05

Like it

Nancy66 · 18/05/2008 09:06

it's ok - don't hate it, don't love it.
I think unless you're super rich or some exotic mix it seems a bit 'try hard.'

georgiemama · 18/05/2008 09:11

I really like it, will probably use it if we ever have a girl.

My mum wanted to call me India but my father wouldn't let her - they are not upper class, or bohos, but perhaps that is why he didn't think it appropriate.

I don't think names necessarily have these class distinctions now. If you like it, go for it.

Tortington · 18/05/2008 09:12

nancy66 summed it up perfick

constancereader · 18/05/2008 09:45

yes nancy66, that is my feeling too
although I think it is a lovely name and would go well with our surname, there is just too much baggage with it to use.

My dh will never suggest asking mn again , I couldn't believe it when he suggested it.

I love it. My friend recently called her child India Ella - really pretty...

isaidno · 18/05/2008 14:14

I think it only suits exotic looking children (Asian looking I suppose without meaning to be discriminatory.)

I suppose it would also be ok if child was born / conceived in India.

flubdub · 18/05/2008 14:15

Oh God no.
Its my cousins middle name.

kayzisexpecting · 18/05/2008 14:18

I really like India, we are thinking of using it if we have a girl.

We also like Indigo which was mentioned earlier.

Pinkchampagne · 18/05/2008 14:22

Quite like it, but wouldn't chose it myself.

2Eliza2 · 18/05/2008 14:36

If you have a connection with India.

Inigo instead of Indigo, perhaps? Indigo being a colour.

MargaretMountford · 18/05/2008 14:38

IT'S a nice name but trying a bit hard

ElizabethBeresford · 18/05/2008 18:33

Not keen if you've never been to India. If India has a large part of you, then I think it is more than just a trend.

Prefer Skye after the isle of skye. closer to home.

CrushWithEyeliner · 18/05/2008 18:39

pretentious to the max

only read OP

Anna8888 · 18/05/2008 18:54

India is a very pretty name, but pretentious.

Shoshe · 18/05/2008 19:04

I wanted indis for DD, but without us talking about it SIL1 beat us to it by 3 days and called her DD India, we then called DD Chynna, 2 days later SIL2 called her DD Ayshia, MIL asked her if we thought the family was the blardy League of Nations.
