Brother for Goddess-named sisters

Name changed for obvious reasons. I've shot myself in the foot with this one! I have two daughters, Artemis and Juno, and now I'm expecting a boy.

The obvious choice would be a mythological or God name, but I'm struggling to find one I like.

For context:
Artemis was named due to links to Artemisia of Caria (kick ass Persian naval war commander) and the Goddess as my Middle Eastern surname has a similar meaning to "Hunter".

Juno was one of the few names we had on our list and we just felt it suited her when she was born.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Caspar has always been on my list for a boy but it's the only name I have right now and DH is equally at a loss for ideas!

Brian

"Now, you listen here! He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy!"

(Couldn't resist.)

I like Thor. Really strong name

It’s not that it’s pretentious, it’s that you seem to be naming your children according to a theme, like the Rooneys giving all their children ‘K’ names. I would definitely not use another god or mythology name for your son. Alexander or Hector, or something strong and plain.

That's fair. After Artemis we had a list of names from various backgrounds for her sister, but got the impression that it'd be weird if we didn't follow the goddess theme, especially as Artemis is beyond the realms of "normal" Goddess names and is a really strong one at that.

Hence wondering about God names for this one. But a strong name is definitely much needed with his sisters names!

Persian kings were on my original lists, definitely going to revise those again. After having two girls my brain is full of the names we didn't use, and being one of three girls myself I convinced myself [illogically!] that I was having another girl, so I'm at a complete loss as to what to name a boy! (and no gender disappointment, just a lovely surprise!)

Loki and Hector are both lovely names. Hector might be a bit more “normal” when said with Artemis and Juno, so I’d lean into Loki more.

This sounds like a game! It’s not - the poor boy will grow up with the name forever - it’s not about matching to his sisters it’s about this little human!

I'm looking for ideas, logically, it made sense to start with mythology 🤷‍♀️

How about Cassian?
With the new series of Andor starting on Disney I thought it was a fitting name ( and a lovely one)

FigTreeInEurope · 24/04/2025 10:07

Just remember the lil dude has to live with it!

S0j0urn4r · 24/04/2025 10:09

Hector or Castor, as suggested by others. Hector is probably the nicest guy from Greek mythology.
Also really like Cassian as pp suggested.

Exactly, which is why I'm starting with asking for a broad list on forums because baby name sites are massively overwhelming and, as I said, I shot myself in the foot with such distinctive names for his sisters.

I love Loki, wondering if we'd be asking for trouble with that namesake after having two very strong minded girls who certainly live up to their namesakes 😅

Half the dogs bought during COVID-19 lockdown are called "Loki".

ArmySurplusHamster · 24/04/2025 10:19

Sisyphus is nice.

Oh gosh don't remind me, my neighbours little terror was called Loki. Tiny little thing, he managed to jump my 5ft fence, so we got a 6ft one and he jumped that too. Apparently the new owner went higher still and he still managed to get over!

Jesus.

Neemie · 24/04/2025 10:23

It is tough on a kid if they don’t live up to their name. No one bats an eyelid at a slightly plump Dave or a small and weedy Nick, but people can’t help but notice the irony of a plump Apollo or a weedy Thor.

GeorgeCrabtreesAuntBegonia · 24/04/2025 10:26

The Greek hero Hector has already been mentioned as a name. If you are looking for a strong, heroic name what about Lysander?

SimpleSister · 24/04/2025 10:26

Jesus but pronounced the Spanish way J becomes like H.

EThreepwood · 24/04/2025 10:26

Dylan is my favourite boy name.
Dylan ail Don is a Welsh sea god so it would fit the theme still while being a more common name.

NameforBabyBrother · 24/04/2025 10:26

Thank you all for thoughts, it's kind of summed up my mixed feelings on a God/mythology name really! Especially once you consider the myths and stories behind some of them. There are a few that'll make it to the list but I've also been reminded of the Persian kings, some gorgeous names there which are strong too.

Herne, also means hunter.

Oakley is nice too.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 24/04/2025 10:29

Lysander? Not a god as such but a strong name

DappledThings · 24/04/2025 10:29

Marcus. Comes from the God Mars.

lp4787 · 24/04/2025 10:33

What about Balthazar, Balth for short? I know a family with 2 Greek Goddess named daughters & a little brother, Balth

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 24/04/2025 10:33

Caspian?

You sound very sensible, OP. I'm sure you'll find the right name. Your girls' names are lovely. Artemis is one of my favourites.

HugoYorway · 24/04/2025 10:33

@EThreepwood , Dylan does not have the same vibe as the sibling's names.
