Possibly Carter Matthew.

Last name starts with an A.

Sorry, adding to the other awfuls. I don’t have good associations.

ooo interesting! I like that

It's hideous for a girl. Poor her.

Not nice.

A carter is … someone who carts. And people who drop their Ts will say Car-er, which is awful.

Absolutely so! I know a Carter and every one of his relatives, and his parents, are prone to the use of glottal stops and pronounce it "Car-er - it makes me wince every single time I hear it. Just dreadful.

Radionowhere · 23/04/2025 22:49

I like it

Carter the unstoppable sex machine? Will also be known as 'farter''carter the farter' or questions about what the Christian name is as Carter is a surname. What are your second and third choices? What other things do you like so we can suggest some ideas?

Mistyglade · 23/04/2025 23:54

Or the inimitable Shirley Carter. Grin

Ah memories of Carter USM and wild
nights at university!

it’s OK as a name - if you like it then use it

God, yes. Having major nostalgia here.

i think I just don’t like job surnames as first names — Carter, Hunter, Cooper, Smith etc.

Not a fan of surnames as first names. And reminds me of Get Carter too.

Awful

vincettenoir · 24/04/2025 07:25

It’s not a bad name but because of the film “Get Carter” there is an unavoidable association with violence and gangsters.

CrownCoats · 24/04/2025 08:29

People will forever think you’re writing surname then first name.

ICanTellYouMissMe · 24/04/2025 08:30

I really like it; depends on your local accent though as to whether anyone would pronounce the T, and how much it would bother you if they don’t.

That's a very good point. I did a bit of exam invigilation and I remember one exam being held up for what seemed like ages because a girl had a daft first name and a surname like Douglas and she was down as a boy, and no one could find this Douglas Carter (or whatever it was).

Istgisforreal · 24/04/2025 10:10

Awful, low class ... but if that's what you're going for, as for thinking a girl might like being called Carter, just no....

Matthew is lovely though!

Pinotnoiragain · 27/04/2025 08:53

Awful. They are so many names to pick from, but Carter is hideous
