Bit stuck but vote your favourite! Any other suggestions welcome. Come up with the shortlist of Maeve, Anais, Eleanor, Hazel, Jasmine and Leah

No:
Maeve - don't like the way it looks or sounds
Anais - too much of a mouthful but looks pretty. Probably 'Ana' or 'Uh-nay'.
Leah - ok but a bit plain

Yes:
Jasmine - like
Eleanor - classic, unremarkable. Probably Ellie
Hazel- nice enough, a bit rabbity

Suggest:
Annalise or Anna instead of Anaïs

I adore Leah and it’s so under used.

I know so many Eleanor’s and Ellie’s it’s quite ridiculous.

BoleynMemories13 · 16/04/2025 13:58

Hazel is by far my favourite. By a long way.

Leah and Jasmine are quite nice, but a bit dated now.

Eleanor is ok, if pronounced El-eh-na. I dislike El-eh-nor, so it's accent dependant. Either way, it will inevitably become Ellie which is quite dull and bland.

Maeve is the latest fad. I don't get it personally. It's just Dave with an M. Not pretty sounding.

I personally don't like the sound of Anais either. It's quite trendy. Do you like Anya?

Emanwenym · 16/04/2025 14:03

@BoleynMemories13 , Daeve has a certain flourish Smile
Meadhbh doesn't invoke the same reaction in me, but the spelling isn't obvious to everyone.

Waterlilysunset · 16/04/2025 14:04

Like most of them!

jasmine and Leah are a bit common to me though sorry

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/04/2025 14:07

I voted for Hazel - pretty, simple, fresh sounding and not too dated or overused.

Leah would be my second choice - a nice simple classic.

Maeve is also lovely - a bit trendier but I like it.

Jasmine is nice, I just find the sound a bit harsher.

Eleanor is a solid choice if you don’t mind Ellie or its popularity.

Anais I really dislike - it’s pretentious sounding to me (if no linked heritage) and has pronunciation variations that would annoy me.

Maeve or Eleanor

Emanwenym · 16/04/2025 14:11

@hollybelle2 , I say Leah as 'Lay-ah' , and based my opinon on that. Lee-ah sounds nicer.

LonelyMom123 · 16/04/2025 14:14

I like them all. Top 3 are Jasmine, Leah and Maeve.

LeopardsANeutral · 16/04/2025 14:19

I absolutely love Anaïs, but I know one and everyone including her parents pronounce it wrong

AdaColeman · 16/04/2025 14:31

Maeve and Leah are my favourites.

I'm not keen on Hazel, reminds me of a nut tree too much, be prepared for a huge range of pronunciations and spellings if you use Anais.

LilyJosephine · 17/04/2025 21:11

Can’t go wrong with Eleanor - it’s almost the “Elizabeth” of girls names ie. super classic/unlikely to date, lots of nickname choice if she doesn’t like it/wants one, interesting historical and cultural namesakes etc
