Used all our favourite names on our pets 🙈

Hi all

It's our first baby and we don't know what we are having.

My husband and I are pretty sure on a few girls name options but we're struggling for a boy's name.

Our dilemma is we really like a boy's name that has the same nickname as our female puppy. The nickname can be spelt masculine or feminine but is the exact same name. If we give our son the name, we will end up using the nickname too, essentially having the same name for our son and our dog....

Have we just ruined our chance to choose our top boy name?

Or do we change the name of the dog? Or do we just not care either way what people think?

I’d change the nickname of the dog! Then use your favourite name 😊

Definitely agree, change the dogs nick name or even name and practise it early. Your dog will adapt learn the new name with rewards, and love you all the same. And ignore others, this is your child.

My partner and I have three furbabies, and same as you we had girl names, but the boys names got complicated by our furkids.
And of cause we had a boy.
We landed up not using the names we loved because of nick names being being the same, or having the same starting letter.

Which now I think was so ridiculous 🙄, we gave him a name that I cant get used to. So don't regret it, just go with what you love, If your baby lands up being a boy.

My parents named their cat their favourite name. Then I came along (they'd had fertility issues). I got the name & the cat became Tigger. I don't think it was a problem. Though I obviously don't remember😂

3rd boy and all our favourite names were either used on ds1 and 2, including middle names and the 2 dogs. We eventually settled on a name that happened to be the old next-door neighbours dogs name!

Noo, please don’t do that to your dog. He knows his name and it would be confusing for him ☹️

There are literally thousands of names out there, surely you can find another few names you like?

What is wrong with naming your son after your beloved dog?
Boy will out live dog.
Hope dog lives long enough for boy to remember his namesake.

Thanks everyone. Really surprised to hear most people think its fine or we can change the name of the pup. My husband initially thought it would be scoffed at or was a complete no go, so it's been useful to get people's thoughts on this one.
