How would you pronounce Theia?

Question is in the title really!

Do you think it’s an odd name?

I really like the spelling and we have a strong Greek surname so I feel like it fits better. Which pronunciation do you like best?

All opinions welcome! I hope I don’t regret this .. 😂

Lovelynames123 · 14/04/2025 16:17

Thay-a to rhyme with princess Leia

OldGothsFadeToGrey · 14/04/2025 16:17

through gritted teeth

WanderInMyTime · 14/04/2025 16:17

"Should have called my daughter Thea but it wasn't sufficiently pretentious for me".

Stichintime · 14/04/2025 16:17

Not sure, Fee ah?

BassesAreBest · 14/04/2025 16:18

Going against the grain to say I’d pronounce it in the same way as Thea i.e. Thee-ah

Latenightreader · 14/04/2025 16:19

I met a Theia who is pronounced Tey-a, but before I met her I would have pronounced it They-a (soft th, not hard like they).

Thay-a to rhyme with princess Leia

Same.

TimeForABreak4 · 14/04/2025 16:20

Oh that's a difficult one, I suppose it could be thigh-a, Tee-a or Thai-a. I'd imagine shel get her name pronounced wrong her whole life.

Brutalist · 14/04/2025 16:21

I’d awkwardly stumble through Thea, Tie-a, Thee-ay-a, Tay-a etc until I happened to get it right

mugglewump · 14/04/2025 16:21

Th-ay-ah as ey is often ay, like they, but can be ee, like monkey. I think you'll end up always having to spell it and be asked how to pronounce it unless you go for the conventional Thea.

violetqueen6 · 14/04/2025 16:22

I agree , same as Thea.
Which I like a lot.

oviraptor21 · 14/04/2025 16:23

Like Thea but constantly getting the spelling wrong.

😂

I would pronounce it thee-ah.

Same.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 14/04/2025 16:31

I’d guess at Thay-ah or Tay-ah. How are you wanting it pronounced?

Figgygal · 14/04/2025 16:33

I honestly wouldn't know

CarpetKnees · 14/04/2025 16:35

I wouldn't know, so would probably go "Thee ah" (Thea) but with a question mark in my voice whilst looking round to see if anyone responded.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 14/04/2025 16:35

Thee-ah like Thea

your child will spend her whole life correcting spelling and pronunciation

HugoYorway · 14/04/2025 17:13

Thigh-a to rhyme with Higher

muddyford · 14/04/2025 17:14

Taya

muddyford · 14/04/2025 17:15

That's Tay-a not Tay-ee-a!

Ecrire · 14/04/2025 17:17

Just why?
