my top contender for DS is Francis, my husband has two;

grayson
spencer

I am aware our choices are very different but how can we meet in the middle to agree on a a name. 34 weeks pregnant and can not see how we are going to agree on a name.

You need to either go back to the long list stage and start again or flip a coin.

Theblueduck · 10/04/2025 21:08

I agree about having to go back to the beginning.

I think it’s hard to find common ground given your very different naming styles.

What about Francis NN Frankie?
Or Charles NN Charlie?

More of a formal name for you and a more modern name for DH?

SkaneTos · 10/04/2025 21:09

Can one of the names be a middle name?

Francis Spencer
Francis Grayson
Spencer Francis
Grayson Francis

GoodVibesHere · 10/04/2025 21:09

Well Grayson is awful, surely you can rule that one out

Larry Grayson!

Grayson is awful.

Spencer is ok and I like Francis.

Felix any good?

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 10/04/2025 21:11

Well don’t agree to Grayson or Spencer. They are estate agents

I think you need that match up app

Remember, that’s just your opinion. Not a fact.

If we all liked the same names life would be a little boring, wouldn’t it?

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2025 21:12

Hi. My son is gray.

Grayson.

It's literally the dullest name ever. Except Graeme. Which sounds gray and old fashioned.

Spencer is wet. Or Frank Spencer. Really really don't do Francis Spencer....

2chocolateoranges · 10/04/2025 21:12

I quite like Spencer and Grayson
francis is just so old fashioned, not a fan.

Graham is marginally better than Graeme. Graeme gives me the rage. Irrationally. It's just hateful in its combination of letters and the sound. There are no interesting or fun Graemes on the whole planet. If you are Graeme you are destined to be dull and ridiculously boring. You mow the laws every Saturday and the highlight of your week is putting the bins out.

I have no idea why the name just grinds my teeth that much. It just does.

Moreteaandchocolate · 10/04/2025 21:27

I like Spencer best from your choices.

I know Francis is a nice classic male name, but honestly I think if you ask most teen boys they’d much prefer Spencer or Grayson on the register at secondary school! But I agree with other posters that there must be a middle ground name you could agree on between the very classic but quite posh (maybe wet…?) Francis, vs the very modern, American vibe of Grayson.

Are there any other names you like?

Do you like-

Frank
Fraser
Dylan
Lewis
Ethan
Joel
Toby
Lawrence
Ellis
Elliott
Callum
Harris

Francis is a dreadful, dreary name. Makes me think of a mummy’s boy in the 1950s with big clammy hands.

I love Francis! Tell your DH it’s Francis or Peregrine, he’ll soon come around.

GreyhoundGal1 · 11/04/2025 08:23

Your name styles aren't actually so different in sound. Both 2 syllables, both have a soft c/s sound at the beginning of the second syllable.

Throwing some out with similar sounds: Vincent, Jesse, Jason, Wallace, Terrence, Reece, Percy, Sidney, Cedric, Cecil, Silas, Samson, Russell, Jasper, Wilson, Orson, Cassian

HugoYorway · 11/04/2025 12:08

Was going to suggest Francis Spencer too!

@Oneforusall2388 , tell your DH that Grayson gets shortened to Grace.
(Shut that door!Smile)

Greyson is shit, Francis is a lovely classic name. Spencer is just a common surname. Francis, no contest. Frank Spencer is not an option.
