Currently 33 weeks and trying to whittle down names so a 2 part question. We currently have Emilia Rose and Alice Juliette. For girls we like Everly, Avalon, Madeleine and Coralie but was wondering if theres any names with a similar vibe that we have missed. For boys we like Theo but no long version of Theo so wondering if theres any names that can be nn to Theo that aren’t the conventional Theodore, Theon… (like the way Eleanor is shortened to Nellie/nora)

Coralie rhymes with orally, so I'd avoid that.

I'm not keen on Avalon or Everly at all, and they're a completely different style of name from Emilia and Alice. I think Madeleine would suit perfectly.

Alternatives:
Clara
Louisa
Charlotte
Isobel
Beatrix
Lara
Caroline
Tessa
Celine
Sophia
Theodora
Tamsin
Ivy
Olivia

For a nn for Theo, you could use Ted, which is already a nn for Theodore.

Does Coralie rhyme with that? I’ve always heard it pronounced like Coral with an “ee” on the end (so a short “O” rather than the “Or” sound in Cora). I think it’s really pretty pronounced like Coral.

Op for me it would be between Coralie and Madeleine considering her siblings names - probably I’d pick Madeleine overall since it’s much better known/more classic like Alice and Emilia (Avalon and Everly are pretty but they seem a very different style to Alice and Emilia to me - plus I’m not keen on same initials for same sex siblings).

For other suggestions - Isabelle/Isabel seems an obvious sibling name to Alice and Emilia to me (in terms of popularity, fairly international, classic vibes, vowel and L heavy like her sisters names). Possibly Charlotte or Sophie in terms of style too.

Theo works fine as is (assuming you don’t care about trendiness then it’s a lovely name imo) - a lot of Theo’s aren’t anything longer on the birth certificate.

Thanks so much everyone! Madeleine is definitely a top contender, especially since it was choice 2 for second born!

Elodie I thought of for a girls name, I like Everly too.

Theo is a fine name on its own now I think. You could have Matteo and call him Teo which is similar?

CheeseAndHamToastieAndCrisps · 09/04/2025 15:28

I have a Theo who is just Theo, no long version.

EcruCardigan · 09/04/2025 19:09

Avalon sounds like a nursing home for the elderly and Everly sounds like a town in Yorkshire.

Theo could be short for Theophilus, Theobald, Theoden,, Theofanis, Theodosius or Mattheo. Just Theo is better though

It's a Toyota sedan where I live.

@LilyJosephine
Coral/ Cora/ Coralie all have the same O sound in my accent, and it's the same O sound as in 'oral'.

I’d never heard of that before 🤣🤣 That’s funny, luckily we won’t end up that tbh cos the 2 A names with one E
