First impressions based on these names?

I know how important first impressions can be, so I’m wondering - if you were to see these names written down with no context, what type of person would you assume to have that name?

  • Ayla
  • Holly
  • Tiffany
  • May
  • Yasmine

I'd expect Holly to have a December birthday. I like the names though

AmusedLemur · 07/04/2025 21:27

This is just a bit of fun btw, not to help me name a baby!

I would just accept any of these names on a person without judging. None of them are super weird or anything. But since you asked...

Ayla - made up name (unless it's a legit name in another country and you have heritage from said country)
Holly - normal name
Tiffany - a bit quirky but maybe also marmite?
May - nice normal name
Yasmine - would assume middle eastern heritage. Nice name.

DinaofCloud9 · 07/04/2025 21:30

Ayla and Holly just normal.
Tiffany born in the 80s
May my horrible wizened battle axe of a neighbour.
Yasmine of Moroccan origin.

RickiRaccoon · 07/04/2025 21:30

Ayla -- very neutral, no impressions of what the person would be like.
Holly -- neutral but I will say all the Hollys I've known have been really nice.
Tiffany -- 80s glam. I'd imagine her and her family would be a bit dramatic.
May -- understated name. I'd imagine someone quietly smart and pretty.
Yasmine -- either foreign or maybe from a poorer background.

CBC12345 · 07/04/2025 21:31

Tiffany - Eastenders

DragonsAreMySoulAnimal · 07/04/2025 21:37

Ayla I would wonder how to pronounce it. Tiffany i would think airhead. No other thoughts on the other names.

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/04/2025 21:37
  • Ayla - under 30, pretty, creative, boho-chic
  • Holly - any age - friendly, fun, kind, bubbly
  • Tiffany - 40 plus but dresses much younger
  • May - any age, clever, kind, gentle and quiet
  • Yasmine - exotic looks and vibrant personality
Nevertrustacop · 07/04/2025 21:43

Ayla - parents a bit dozy
Holly - born in December and aged towards 40
Tiffany - elderly prostitute
May - either Nan, or named after her Nan
Yasmine - North African

Shirtless · 07/04/2025 21:52

I wouldn’t think anything about the person with any of those names. Names are about the parent doing the naming. Seen together like this, I’d think the person listing them had rather frilly, retro taste in names, just as anyone looking at my and my siblings names would think, correctly, that my parents were trying to give their children generic names that wouldn’t stand out from the crowd.

I’d be surprised to meet a baby Tiffany or Yasmine — they feel very dated to me.

Mumofgirls2017 · 07/04/2025 22:02
  • Ayla - bland, sickly
  • Holly - quirky, born in 80s
  • Tiffany - born in USA in 80s
  • May - bland, could be 95
  • Yasmine - exotic, 90s
Marcipix · 07/04/2025 22:10

Ayla - depends. I know one spelt that way but pronounced Isla. Anyway, too many of them is how I feel.

Holly - pretty, classic nature name. Sensible and intelligent.

Tiffany - eighties. Airhead.

May - neutral. Rather on the dull side.

Yasmine- stodgy, socially a little behind her peers.

Ayla - a foreigner.

• Holly - ordinary name, nice enough but reminds me of Willoughby who I can't stand.

• Tiffany - chav
• May - nice enough but a bit dull.
• Yasmine - a foreigner.

user1492757084 · 08/04/2025 06:19

Ayla - foreign or the child of very young parents.
Holly - sporty, active family.
Tiffany - loves Barbies, treated like a Princess.
May - confident, nature loving conservative family.
Yasmine - foreign back ground, alert and bright.

LetTheWindBlowBackYourHair · 08/04/2025 11:58

Ayla - it's quite a pretty, but I'd think she was just a run of the mill girl, nothing special about her.

Holly - really like. Although I just said on another thread I don't like tree names, this must be the exception that proves the rule! I guess it's more of a bush.
😄

Tiffany - Really dislike. Makes me think of Eastenders. Also, a bit school bully to me. Very 80's/90's too.

May - A pretty, thoughtful, joyful young lady. Absolutely love this name. It's a very special family name for me. I hate that it's now a very common filler middle name.

Yasmine - Makes me think of a woman in her 50's who is quite outspoken for some reason, not that there's anything wrong with that.

MajorCarolDanvers · 08/04/2025 11:59

Holly is nice.

the rest are a bit naff

Leapintothelightning · 08/04/2025 12:50

Ayla - hardworking, has at least one foreign parent

Holly - outgoing, popular, either in their 30s or a baby named after a family member

Tiffany - has chavvy parents

May - woman in her 70s/80s

Yasmine - American, probably in her 50s

Needmorelego · 08/04/2025 13:50

I'd assume they were female.
That's it.

HugoYorway · 08/04/2025 18:16

Ayla - probably primary school age and friends with Isla, Ava, Ada, Layla, Lila, Lyra ...Nothingy name that neither sounds nor looks pretty
Holly - probably in her 30s or 40s.Outgoing and popular
Tiffany - Probably in her 30s and her parents watched EastEnders.
May - 85 year old
Yasmine - probably in her late 30s. I prefer Yasmin.

Yasmin and Holly are nice

mummysmagicmedicine · 09/04/2025 21:25
  • Ayla - pretty name
  • Holly- don’t get many baby Holly’s anymore in my area!
  • Tiffany- a bit frilly and bratty vibes but I’ve met a few who put me off
  • May- think it’s a bit bland
  • Yasmine- pretty name, but will it be Yasmine like Jasmine or will it be Yaz meen?
Reddelilah · 10/04/2025 07:37

Type of person? I could only tell that they’re probably female

Justhere65 · 10/04/2025 07:44

This is amusing. I know a Tiffany and she is a bright, high achieving girl who is beautiful too. Would love to be like her!

MirandaBlu · 10/04/2025 09:38

Tiffany - has chavvy parents. Tiffany's parents are Donald Trump and Marla Maples (literally).

Ayla's a legit Hebrew and Turkish name, but unfortunately it just makes me think of Clan of the Cave Bear.

Holly and May too generic to typecast. Jasmin(e)/Yasmin too, but the Yasmine spelling would probably make me think of ME/C Asian ties.

I think that’s the point! People are often typecasted straight off of the bat from their names so OP is just having a bit of fun!
