I love the name Linda but it’s very 70s to me and makes me think of a 50-something woman rather than someone young

I like Linda. I don’t know any Lindas my age. I’m late 50s. Linda is a name of the generation before me. Eg, my teacher at school was called Linda.

CraneBeak · 01/04/2025 20:11

I adore the name Lena or Lina.

Lindsey could abbreviate to Linda.

NuitDeSable · 01/04/2025 20:11

La-a.

Lena or Lennie maybe short for Lenora.
Or Elorie (said with a long 'or' sound) which makes me then think of Elodie which is nothing like Linda but is more contemporary!
If you like Linda go with Linda...if going longer I prefer Melinda to Belinda.

My Mum is called Linda and she's 75. She has a lot of friends her age called Linda/Lynda. I'm 52 and only know one Linda in my year at school.

Changeissmall · 01/04/2025 20:22

Oh this is my all time favourite name. Yes be the first to revive it. There will be loads in 15 years.

I have a kid called Jeremy. It's not a "baby" name, it's the same era as Linda, a middle aged person name. Babies and children are only babies and children for a very short amount of time. He's now a teenager and it's so him. If you like Linda, have Linda. When your baby is born and they have a name, people adjust really quickly when they meet them to that is who they are. That's just Linda. Linda is lovely.

Loveday Minette

There was a Loveday at my school. Now that is a name that's rarely heard.

Use Linda if you like it- it’s a pretty name. It’s become associated with a particular generation, but we’ve been through the revival of names from the generation before that. Belinda and Melinda are pretty too.

Linden is a nice alternative but may get confused with the boys’ name Lyndon.

Selina has some similarities but is less associated with a particular era.

Lydia is lovely.

I was going to suggest Lydia too.

Otherwise Lucinda or Rosalinda.

I know a teenage Linda.

Oceangrey · 01/04/2025 20:29

I know a baby Linden.

Oceangrey · 01/04/2025 20:30

But you know what I actually like Linda

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 01/04/2025 20:31

I think Linda is lovely as it is. Plus nice to have a change from names which are currently fashionable and used by everyone and their dog.

Calliopespa · 01/04/2025 20:33

G-Linda will be popular with young Wicked fans! 🧙‍♀️🧚‍♀️ 🤣

Linda is more a name from the 50's. I've never met a Linda my age in the UK. I'm 59 and my mum was a Linda, spelt Lynda.

I think Lydia is pretty timeless.
