Esther spelling

I love the name Esther but hate the spelling, seems stupid to have a th in there that isn’t pronounced! Esta looks nicer and makes more sense, but would this be annoying for her? Would people assume it’s Esther?

Esta isn’t a name? Ester at a push I guess.

Esta is the name of the visa to enter the USA so don’t call her that!

Nesta is better than Esta.

I love the name Esther, but please don’t fudge the spelling—she’ll spend a lifetime correcting people. It’s not fair. And FYI, an Esta is a visa to get into the US—not an appropriate name for a baby girl. Estelle or similar may be another option?

What about Hester?

In chemistry, an ester is a compound derived from an acid (organic or inorganic) in which the hydrogen atom (H) of at least one acidic hydroxyl group (−OH) of that acid is replaced by an organyl group (as defined by Wikipedia).
I remember making them in A level chemistry.
The do often smell nice though!

What about Polly as a fist name and Ester as a middle one? 😉

My first thought was chemistry esters too.

I wouldn’t give my dc a lifetime of saying “Esther, but it’s spelt like the US immigration visa” It will simply look like she was really unlucky in her parents.
Either use the actual spelling of the name or pick a name whose spelling you actually do like.

Esther is great just as it is. Or Esti/Este/Esti which I think are diminutives that could stand alone.

I really like Easter too but I'm sure I'm the minority.

What about Estelle or Estee?

Ester is the usual spelling in a lot of European languages, as well as the usual direct transliteration from Hebrew, although I think Hester is more traditional in English. I'd go with one of those. But th pronounced as t isn't that unusual - Thomas, Theresa, Anthony, Jacintha, Thaddeus, Matthias.

Or you could go with Ishtar, and DO pronounce the h.

Esther is awful. Esta is worse, and they only sound similar in certain accents.

Esta is a name. It's not very common but a quick Google showed there are at least 4000 in the US alone. I know one in the uk in her mid 30s.

Ishtar would be brilliant - powerful and violent Mesopotamian goddess of love and war - what's not to love?!

You could call her Hester, which is a variant of Esther. I mean, I know it's really just moving the H around, but at least it looks more phonetic, which I guess is what you're going for?

Esther is a lovely, traditional name. Esta cheapens it and just makes it look like you can't spell, I'm afraid.
