We have just found out second baby is another boy!
I always find girls names sooooo much easier
We already have a Rory(boy) and we do love Rowan but is that too similar?

Any suggestions for a brother for Rory.
We LOVED Eloise for a girl.

I think they're ok together, so I don't think that should stop you if you love the name.

One thing to consider is the potential hassle of differentiating between the brothers when using just initials... you'll end up with post, for example, arriving addressed to "Master/Mr R Bloggs" and you won't know who it's for until it's opened, but that situation isn't all that uncommon with siblings/parents... just adding food for thought in case it bothers you (it can be a privacy issue, amongst other things, down the line)!

Thanks for the suggestions so far and giving me food for thought.

Will keep Rowan as top 1 for now then

I don’t think they’re ridiculous together, but I do find them quite hard to say quickly, which could be an issue!

I love Rory. How about James, Max, Alexander, Leo?

VerySkilledFirefighter · 29/03/2025 10:09

I really struggle to say Rory and Rowan… individually they’re fine but I keep saying Rory like Jonathan Ross or Roran, so some people might find it a tongue twister - but I expect they’ll end up being called “the boys” most of the time so it won’t be a huge issue.

GreyhoundGal1 · 29/03/2025 10:26

They're too close for me personally to use together because I don't like matching initials for siblings, but I don't think anyone hearing their names would think that. Depends if you can yell them together! Love the name Rory, I think I prefer Owen to Rowan.

What about Arlo, Asher, Milo, Wesley, Wilson, Sawyer

TeenToTwenties · 29/03/2025 10:28

I agree it may well lead to unnecessary mix ups with post etc by using the same initial.

BoleynMemories13 · 29/03/2025 11:18

Ultimately they're fine in sound, because only the first sound is repeated, but personally I wouldn't give them the same initials. Both growing up R Surname could lead to some confusion (post etc).

I think they're too similar

The nick names for Rowan are likely to be very similar to Rory.

RogueFemale · 29/03/2025 22:51

Rowan is too similar to Rory, and is rather dull. Are you all red-haired?

uncomfortablydumb60 · 29/03/2025 22:59

I don’t think they’re too similar for siblings
Do use a different middle initial for Rowan though for post etc
i have an Adult Rowan and love Rory too

DramaAlpaca · 30/03/2025 00:57

Not too similar at all.

Ronan would be good too, Rory and Ronan.
