There’s no need to be rude, I reported the post when I noticed the error.

Priya!!! Loved it since I was a little girl. I ended up marrying a man who is half Indian which got me excited that I could actually use the name…. Until I found out his cousin is called Priya 🫠

DD(13) has a friend called Priya, who has no Indian heritage at all. Her parents just liked the name.

It’s such a beautiful name! Ah almost, there are so many lovely Indian names though.

I thought Antigone might be doable here but once heard someone confidently pronounce it anti gone and that ruined it for me.

Love it. Arabic baby names are usually stunning and have lovely meaning behind them.

Anjalie. Such a beautiful name, but no south Asian heritage and I had boys.

Santiago, Giacomo and Diego. We already had multiple ethnicities we could choose from, so felt it would have been greedy going for names from other cultures. Also, complicated surname, so wanted easy to pronounce in UK first names.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 15/03/2025 19:32

I have always liked Amara and Anaya, and a number of names that only ever seem to be used by conservative Christian religious communities.

Now that I live in Wales, I have found lots of new names that I like. If ever I am lucky enough to have children, I will have to query whether an unmistakably Welsh first name will be a bit much with a French/English surname...

Darius
Cyrus
Inigo
Florian

Ludmila
Marisol
Marjolaine
Anouk
Noor

I don’t see why you can’t use any name you like (except maybe Mohammed if not Muslim). And anyone who mispronounces Antigone shows a lack of education (quite literally - no knowledge of Greek legends).

I love Ethiopian names. Atsede, Selamwit, Teferi, Anbessa. Such strong but beautiful names.

tuesdayschildish · 19/03/2025 19:10

Dylan. I’m Welsh but live in England so would have to listen to people mispronounce it as ‘Dillon’ forever which would kill me.

I’m with you on Santiago and Ibrahim. I also love the name Nevaeh for a girl. It sounds so beautiful to me but I know the heaven spelt backwards thing winds people up

Why are these forbidden? I’m from one of the cultures some of the names mentioned on this thread come from and if I ever came across someone not from my culture with them, I’d find that really heartwarming- diversity and assimilation works both ways! FWIW, my DC has a name that is both Scottish and Arab- we’re neither!
