Hi
I have literally just posted a thread on here for opinions on the name Lara!
I just had an idea, instead of spoon feeding all the names I like little by little, I’ll make a poll of all the names in the running and see which is the most liked!

Feel free to comment any opinions / which names you like / don’t like!

Evangeline is lovely, with lots of nn possibilities.

Alexa - lovely name, apart from smart speaker connotations.

Eva very popular.

Bella - prefer as nn

lara - ok, not my cup of tea but perfectly okay name.

Thank you for your reply :)

Note I said Alexis and not Alexa because I dislike the name Alexa for the same reason!
Although I am not sure if Alexis is too close to Alexa so that she would still get all the jokes about it.

Evangeline is so beautiful, it’s a lot more unique than Lara and Eva etc. Arabella is my second choice but I don’t like Bella that much.

Rosybud88 · 08/03/2025 22:32

Being totally honest …..

Lara - bit blah for me
Eva - classic
Bella - sweet (Arabella would be my preference)
Alexis - love it
Evangeline - love it

loropianalover · 08/03/2025 22:34

I went with Evangeline, lots of nickname possibilities too including Eva. I love Evan on a girl!

Isabella and Arabella are quite overdone, I like Isobel though.

I don’t like Alexis. Lara is nice but I prefer Clara or Lorna.

Moreteaandchocolate · 08/03/2025 22:46

Lara is my favourite- simple, pretty for all ages, not overused.

Eva is gorgeous but Eve-type names are everywhere.

Alexis - nice if you don’t mind it sounding like Alexa.

Bella - loads of these around - mostly short for Isabella / Annabella / Arabella etc. I prefer it as a nn, as I wouldn’t like to be called Bella as an adult, so a longer name gives more options if she likes when she’s older.

Evangeline - my least favourite - I find it too “much” as a full name (makes me think of evangelical) and she’ll probably become another Evie.

Lara is stunning - simple, romantic and elegant.

Eva is an international classic and very pretty too, so imo it doesn’t matter that it happens to be popular at the moment. I must admit I personally prefer the simple cool of Eve though.

I personally don’t like the sound of Alexis and find Evangeline, Arabella and Isabella a bit too frilly. I do like classic Isabel though (and she could still be “Bella”). Bella alone I find too much of a diminutive/pet name.

shoopshoopdedoo · 09/03/2025 04:30

I like Lara and Eva. Voted for Lara.

Prefer Alexandra/Alex to Alexis.

Dislike Evangeline, Bella, Isabella, Arabella - all too frilly for me. I prefer Isobel or Annabel.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 09/03/2025 07:56

I voted Lara but evangeline with the shortening of Evie, Eve or Lina is nice. For some reason I am not as keen on Eva although don’t know why.
As a more at home silly nickname you also have Jelly which is cute. And

RogueFemale · 10/03/2025 00:19

Lara, Eva, and Bella are a bit bland.

Alexis harsh-sounding.

Evangeline a bit drag queen.

BoleynMemories13 · 10/03/2025 06:44

Lara and Eva are by far the nicest on your list. I'm not a fan of frilly long names, or the shortening Bella. Alexis is a trendy unisex name.

Lara would still get my vote.

Emanwenym · 10/03/2025 15:41

Lara - ok, a bit similar to a lot of other names. Much prefer Laura, which has more substance.
Eva - don't like but but like Eve
Bella - dog's name. Long forms nice but too frilly
Alexis - like it but it's mainly a man's name
Evangeline - too frilly and will be Evie or Eva.

I'd ditch Bella, Eva and Evangeline. Lara gets my vote.

Emanwenym · 10/03/2025 15:56

With names that can be shortened, you don't have much control over which diminutive gets used once your child goes to school. I have a name that has a diminutive, but my parents insisted on the full form, but in due course it got shortened. The 'options' are a bit of a nuisance.

(My name is something like Christina, and while I like Christina and Tina, I get Chris, which I don't really like).

Rocknrollstar · 10/03/2025 16:49

I prefer Laura to Lara.

Chunkilumptious · 10/03/2025 17:00

Lara is lovely, sunny and elegant. Laura was very well used in the 80s but has had a break and now feels classic again. Both pretty and classy

-bella names, nice but frilly. I prefer Isobel. Simplest and best

Eva is very nice and sophisticated but so well used. I would personally reject on that basis. Similarly Eve.

Alexis, I prefer Alexandra (not Alexia, I don't like the medical meaning!!).

Evangeline- not my taste and a bit fussy but attractive. I'd say 'ooh, that's nice' and mean it.
