Lovely, but the most commonly used name around here (when you include variations such as Isabelle, Isabella, Isobel etc)

Theoldwoman · 07/03/2025 23:24

Prefer Isobel spelling. Classic name.

mrsm43s · 07/03/2025 23:41

I love it, but I prefer the Isobel spelling (as per the O'Sullivan twins in the St Clare's books).

However it was very, very popular about 15-20 years ago, and I think it still remains fairly popular today, so I think it feels a bit overused, and a little bit dated/not "fresh".

mrsm43s · 07/03/2025 23:45

OMG I just googled and apparently it was IsAbel not IsObel in St Clares. What an odd thing to misremember!

CrystalSingerFan · 07/03/2025 23:52

It'll get mispelled a lot. (Ask me how I know...) Great name though. 😋

louisl8 · 07/03/2025 23:53

I have an Isobel Grin Scottish spelling

peachgreen · 07/03/2025 23:55

Lovely. I wanted Isobel for DD, Bel for short, but DH didn’t like it. Isabel is lovely too.

Wendolino · 07/03/2025 23:58

Lovely. I like Isobel

BoleynMemories13 · 08/03/2025 07:13

A very classic choice.

For those saying they prefer the Isobel spelling, OP has made their reasons for the Spanish spelling obvious.

ApolloandDaphne · 08/03/2025 07:53

It is my middle name and i love it. It's much nicer than my first name. Both my grans were called Isabella and i am named after them.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 08/03/2025 08:26

I've never heard it as Ee-z-Abel. It's Isobel. I have one. My dad always takes the piss and is a bell necessary on a bicycle...

I work with an Isabel and the amount of times her name his spelt wrong on emails winds me up, never mind her.

PrincessW11 · 08/03/2025 08:55

We have an Isabel, lovely name, sure often misspelt, as a tern she now prefers Izzy/Issy

Zeldasie · 08/03/2025 10:24

There have been sooo many Isabellas, Isabels recently and they often end up as Izzy, which I personally don't like.

Zeldasie · 08/03/2025 10:25

There's also Isabelle
