Jude, James or Sebastian?

Other names I like but were vetoed: Noah, Kit, Luca, Nico, Rowan, Oscar, Casper, Felix, Otis, Theodore (Ted/ Teddy).

Think these may be final 3!

Have an older son called Robin.

James every time!

FirstTimeMum2025x · 02/03/2025 14:28

we are about to call ours Jude xx

MolkosTeenageAngst · 02/03/2025 14:30

James seems a bit boring compared to the rest of your list and Sebastian a bit long so by product of elimination I’d go Jude. Appreciate you’re not asking for opinions on the longer list but from all the names you’ve listed I would have gone Kit or Felix (also love Rowan but not with Robin).

I love Kit! Sadly husband did not. Felix he said was a bit too 'posh' for his liking!

Sebastian is my favourite and I love the nn Seb - it’s got a similar classic yet not overused feel to Robin.

James is nice but very common in older generations which makes it feel more commonplace than Robin.

I personally don’t like Jude as much - I know too many female Jude’s, short for Judith.

Stirabout · 02/03/2025 14:37

Couldn’t go for Jude as I always think of Jude The Obscure
James and Sebastian are both lovely

sel2223 · 02/03/2025 17:24

We must have similar taste - I couldn't pick a fave as really like all 3!

Snowmanscarf · 02/03/2025 17:26

Three good names, and any would go.

Was going to suggest Christopher, nn Kit, but then you’d get a lot of Winnie the Pooh themes gifts, comments etc.

boysmuminherts · 02/03/2025 17:26

We have similar taste in names. Love most of them on your 2 lists but would go for Sebastian.

Whateverwhateverever · 02/03/2025 17:28

Felix or Sebastian,Jude great names . James is boring,ok for second name though.
Sorry just realised Felix has been crossed off . I think Felix is a great, solid name .

BoleynMemories13 · 02/03/2025 17:58

I think all 3 could 'go' with Robin. I like Jude the best, but you can't go wrong with a classic like James.

I really like Seb, but not so keen on the full version.

EcruCardigan · 02/03/2025 19:39

I only like James.

SkaneTos · 02/03/2025 22:06

They are all good names!
I voted for Sebastian.

James

Sebastian

Jude

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/03/2025 00:47

Of the 3 it’s James, no contest for me. Classic, timeless, “can’t go wrong” name that’s a lot less overused than it used to be (and has some great nn’s if he wants one - I especially like Jem).

I’m not a fan of trendy names in general and certainly the name Jude has risen incredibly rapidly since Jude Law became famous, so it will probably date in future.

Sebastian is nice enough, but it also rises and falls a lot in fashion and to me possibly sounds a bit “frilly” when compared to Robin.

Maxorias · 03/03/2025 00:51

Sebastian is an obvious choice for me. Classic, classy, no so common. James is just boring and Jude sounds like a diminutive to me.

However, be aware that, like all long names, it's likely to be shortened at some point. Seb or Bas or Bastian will probably happen. Personally I love using diminutives as a mark of affection but I appreciate not everyone does.

NewtonsCradle · 03/03/2025 00:59

James / Jim / Jamie / Jimmy
It might be boring but it's versatile.

climb12sides · 03/03/2025 01:00

We have very similar taste! Our second boy is Tobias. I didn't actually love it but my husband did, and as ever once you've named your child you love their name because it's theirs. My favourite of your final three is Sebastian. If we have a third boy that will be his name.

0192837465V · 03/03/2025 02:00

I chose James, and as pp have said, classic, timeless, not overused today, it's easy to pronounce and spell.
I like Jamie as a nn, but Jim and Jimmy have their uses, but as a pp said ( and I hadforgotten) I also love Jem!

James and Robin go well together too.

shoopshoopdedoo · 03/03/2025 10:22

James is my favourite boys name, so is an obvious winner for me. Sebastian is OK but a bit frilly. I personally don’t like Jude much - it’s a bit too trendy for me.

NearlyThere91 · 03/03/2025 23:23

I think Jude the best by far. Sebastian has some unpleasant nicknames (make me think of sebaceous glands) and James just quite uninspiring. Jude has something about it.

1 Jude
2 James
3 Sebastian, really not a fan

Journeyintomelody · 05/03/2025 00:14

I like all three of your names. Only on thing to add - There are 3 judes, 1 sebastian and 1 bastion in my baby group. I haven't met a James though :)
I think Jude is my favourite.

Justinripley · 05/03/2025 02:25

A million times James. Classic

Jude is trendy. Sebastian is a mouthful

Justinripley · 05/03/2025 02:25

Ps ADORE Robin
