Brother for Max

Boymamaaa · 26/02/2025 09:38

Hi! Please help me find a good boy name for our DS2. Our first son is called Max.
Top picks at the moment are Felix and Ted. We live in Europe (not in UK) and want it to work in most languages. Felix seems to be a bit more common overall, while Ted is ranked much higher on the ”top 100 baby names” list where we live. I hear Ted is more of a nickname in UK rather than full name but would use ”only” Ted. Any thoughts/preferences please 🙏🏼 ? thank you!!

Other names I like:
Harry
Theo
Edward
Bruno
Rex

Ted is a nickname for Edward....but Teddy is now becoming a name in its own right in the UK...which imo is a fad which will date. If you wanted Ted, I'd probably go for Edward with Ted as a nickname.

Your other name choices are nice...

Other names I think sound nice with Max

Leo
Ben
Zachary

Bruno

Moreteaandchocolate · 26/02/2025 11:50

I love Ted, but it depends if it’s as popular where you live as round here - all the little ones being born at the moment seem to be either Ted (either standalone name, or short for Edward or Theodore) or Fred! If Ted isn’t overdone round you then I’d absolutely use that and I like it as a standalone name.

Felix is good too, and I also really like Harry, Theo (although this also very popular) or Edward (often shortened to Ted round here).

Bruno and Rex are less common and quite nice, but often used as dog’s names if that bothers you?!

shoopshoopdedoo · 26/02/2025 11:55

I also see Ted as a nickname (for Edward/Theodore) rather than a standalone name. It’s nice, but it’s interesting that it’s less popular where you are as I think 80% of under-3yo boys I meet are Freddie or Teddy!

So, of your options, I’d pick Felix. Love the suggestion of Leo.

MiddleAgedDread · 26/02/2025 12:35

Harry, Edward and Theo are all good.
I don't like Bruno, it's very "hard" and manly and Rex is too much of a "dog name" for me. I also think Max and Rex is a bit too samey.

If you use Ted then please use Edward as a full name!

Max and Oscar?

I think Ted is trending here and not keen on him having too many in the same classroom, so with that in mind I’m leaning more towards Felix but still very helpful to hear ideas

Bruno!

I'm in the UK and have a Bruno, I'm fully aware that it's a very uncommon name and that is because most people don't like it, however in practice I've never actually had anyone make a negative comment and he's a teenager now.

Thank you for your input! I agree that Rex might be a bit too similar. Can’t go with Oscar but nice name although very popular where we live

Love Bruno, great to hear that! I find it to be quite soft sounding, in contrast to what someone wrote. I find it to be unusual without being too out there.

Alfie or Isaac would be lovely with Max.

user1471538283 · 26/02/2025 17:46

I think Edward shortened to Ted would be lovely. Then he can chose when he gets older. My DS has a nickname but even when he was small he preferred his full name.
