Hi, I have never been sure on my child’s name, sounds quite odd but it was picked under pressure after a traumatic birth, myself and my husband wouldn’t have picked this as our first choice name however after two weeks we felt under pressure, it’s been annoying me for three years to add to it strangers would pass comment on the name for example it’s a traditional name and a song that the name is in, people would sing the song when I mention the name or call her, sending me into over drive thinking have I chosen an awful name and feeling quite hopeless about it and guilty. Has anyone else had name regret and how did you over come it? Any advice would be helpfull.

I think you have postpartum anxiety or depression. I think you need to talk to your doctor.
Name itself is irrelevant portion of our lives and this is how postpartum anxiety can manifest.

Who put you under pressure?

I’m sure the song association vanishes in people’s minds as soon as they get past first introductions to your daughter - I know lots of people with names that had a song / famous person / cartoon character / book character etc association for me until I met a real life person with the name and now their names are just their names and associated with them. If it bothers you, is there a short version / nickname you could use to avoid the initial link with the song (e.g. Delilah could go by Lilah or Della?). I’m sure it’s a beautiful name and your daughter will love it 😊

I'm sure it's not an awful name! It's most likely a lovely name!

Do you at least like the name? Does your husband like the name?
How did you choose the name? Even if you were under pressure, there must have been a reason for choosing it?

There are many threads here on Mumsnet about name regret, maybe do a search and read some of them.
