just that really - Rhys or Alex for baby boy? Most likely Alexander on the birth certificate but called Alex.

Alex / Alexander - great name

Rhys always makes me think of grease

shoopshoopdedoo · 10/02/2025 20:30

Alexander/Alex for sure

Springadorable · 10/02/2025 20:39

Definitely Alex.

bluebunnys · 10/02/2025 20:50

I know sooo many Alexes, mainly women and girls, as well as some boys. I find it overused and not very memorable...

Rhys is a great name that you don't hear that often! I'd definitely choose that.

BootballJoy · 10/02/2025 21:01

Alex

TabloidFootprints · 10/02/2025 21:03

Definitely Alexander/Alex

Moreteaandchocolate · 10/02/2025 21:14

Both are nice. I vote Rhys as I know so many Alex’s. Rhys hits the sweet spot of well known but you’re unlikely to meet many others in your life 😊

Ferrazzuoli · 10/02/2025 21:15

Alex I think it’s more classic, Rhys was more popular about 15 years ago. Depends what kind of name you prefer.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/02/2025 00:55

Alexander is an international classic. Rhys might be a Welsh one - but if you like both equally then I’d always go for a name that’s used in many countries, probably less issues if they travel or move abroad.

I also love that there’s so many “Great” historical namesakes for Alexander (pun intended 🤣). A lot of us might not be here if Fleming hadn’t discovered penicillin (and therefore sparked the concept of antibiotics in general).

Maxorias · 11/02/2025 01:03

Alexander is a wonderful name, it gets my vote. Although I prefer Xander/Sander as a nickname !

Raininginparadise2 · 11/02/2025 03:36

Alexander nn Alex

NefiBlw · 11/02/2025 08:33

Alex. I know lots of both of them and think Rhys only sounds nice when said in Welsh. It's a bit naff otherwise.
Alexander is great.

pambeesleyhalpert · 11/02/2025 08:34

Alex. Or Aled if you're after a Welsh vibe like Rhys

Clearinguptheclutter · 11/02/2025 08:36

I like both but as a welsh person it grates on me when English people can’t say Rhys properly. It just can’t be replicated by an English person, I went through all this with DH when we were trying to agree on what to call ds! If you are ok with the English pronunciation it’s fine though

Viviennemary · 11/02/2025 08:37

I like Alex much better.

PearlClutzsche · 11/02/2025 09:22

Alexander/Alex - International and historic classic!

bluebunnys · 11/02/2025 14:37

Alex might be more international but there are just so many men and women called Alex.

Rhys is much more memorable!

DramaAlpaca · 11/02/2025 14:43

I really like Rhys.

NefiBlw · 11/02/2025 15:14

@bluebunnys , unless you are Welsh. I know far more people called Rhys. It was hugely popular for about 50 years in Wales. it's about as fresh as Mark or Harry.

It also sounds different in Welsh, and it's an old Welsh name.

Alex has many diminutives. Can be Alex, Alec, Xander, Sasha, Sandy.

NefiBlw · 11/02/2025 15:17

@Clearinguptheclutter , it's awful isn't it. Someone suggested 'Geffen' when DC was on the way. I said I knew too many to use it. Grin
