Asking for a Friend(Not me unfortunately)

Opinions please? Do they go together?

Seren and Athena is another possibility but she’s leaning towards Primrose and Athena.

TIA

They're both lovely names!

Why would they need to matchConfused

MistyF · 10/02/2025 15:27

I think they go lovely together and are lovely name and not too matchy

GlassesTime · 10/02/2025 15:28

She’s a little hormonal and worried about one name being perceived to be more “attractive” or “nicer” than the other.

Both lovely names, but I would regard Primrose as more pretty and Athena as more sophisticated so they feel a little mismatched to me

Plenty of mums think if styles are mismatched that it will 'look' weird. Imagine if they are called Freya and Primrose... future parents often think one of kids will be jealous of other twin name.

SummerHouse · 10/02/2025 15:32

They don't need to match but need to be considered together I think. Like it would be strange to have Montgomery and Jack.

Primrose I am not keen on as an individual name but it also means "first rose" which maybe I am overthinking but in the context of twins might be tricky. Could you call twin 2 this?

Seren and Athena are lovely and work as a pair I think.

bluebunnys · 10/02/2025 15:32

I'm imagining it. I think they're both normal girls names and wouldn't think anything unusual...?

minipie · 10/02/2025 15:34

Usually I don’t care about matchy but it seems odd to give twin girls names with such different associations. Primrose is a pretty little flower, and Athena a clever woman, a goddess.

Seren and Athena go together much better IMO.

TizerorFizz · 10/02/2025 15:39

Primrose definitely! Why does anyone care about what names mean? Who looks them up other than somewhat obsessive people! It’s just two lovely names. I actually admire that they are not connected. A breath of fresh air!

FartyPrincess · 10/02/2025 15:42

Primrose would be the shy and whiny one, clingy and crying in the corner.

Athena would very much be the cool kid and the leader of the pack.

EzWin2 · 10/02/2025 15:43

Seren and Athena are better as a twin set.
Athena I feel is completely different to Primrose. I would be suggesting something like Primrose & Juliet, Primrose & Alice, Primrose and Ophelia.

MaryGreenhill · 10/02/2025 15:44

I think Primrose will be changing her name when she is older tbh .

I think one is wet (‘prim’ indeed) and one is strong so yes in that way I see what she means and they don’t match. I think Seren and Athena go nicely together but again don’t match (one welsh one Greek I guess?).

Mirandawrongs · 10/02/2025 15:46

Primrose and Dorothy (prim and dotty), names of my family members.

SecondMrsTanqueray · 10/02/2025 15:46

I think it’s important that they don’t match.

Having said that. I dislike both names. Primrose is too twee and Athena is very ugly sounding to me.

Moreteaandchocolate · 10/02/2025 15:50

I’m not too keen on primrose - it’s the “prim” bit I think, it’s not a name I can imagine wanting to be called personally.

Seren and Athena are lovely (both individually and together) and would get my vote.

CienAnosDeSoledad · 10/02/2025 16:03

Primrose? Jesus. NO. Awful. 'Prim', 'Rose', twee, girly, meek, old-fashioned, just no.

Athena is great, though.

Agree with this. Seren is really popular now and will date, I know loads, including three dogs… and Athena much more classic , so there’s that too.

Raininginparadise2 · 10/02/2025 16:06

Not keen at all on Primrose. Seren and Athena work better.

Rainplops · 10/02/2025 16:08

They don't sound like a good sibset to me, I don't need names to match, but I do like a similar style.

Primrose is frumpy and formal.
Athena is fiesty and fabulous.

Catandsquirrel · 10/02/2025 16:18

Yeah I can see why these two seem counterintuitive together. I love wild primroses but with 'prim' with such a big strong mythological name? It's kind of setting expectations up for them. Seren and Athena don't quite look right written to me but the sound and meaning work better.

HeartyBrickDreamer · 10/02/2025 16:22

They do sound lovely - one does come across as a little more exotic than the other - i'm a mum to twin girls (now all grown up - I'm just glad i divorced the father who wanted to call them ''Porsche' and 'Carrera' - sais everything really...

TempsPerdu · 10/02/2025 16:33

I'd be thinking that Primrose definitely got the raw deal in that scenario - twee and insipid vs strong, intelligent warrior goddess. They're both such evocative and contrasting names that it seems you'd be mapping their future characters out for them as soon as they were born!

BriaTee · 10/02/2025 16:37

I would go for Athena but with something stronger.

Yes they're nice

Athena and Primrose is easier to say though than the other way around
