First message on MN, but lurked for ages!

Just found out preggies with number 2.

Would you laugh to be introduced to Esther Williams?

PortAndLemon · 08/05/2008 15:59

Not LOL, but inwardly snurk, I'm afraid.

PortAndLemon · 08/05/2008 15:59

Congratulations, by the way!

poorbuthappy · 08/05/2008 16:00

Thank you and bum...I know my DH is going to veto that one!

I absolutely love Lily, but think it sounds stupid with Williams!

Hey ho, I'll keep reading!

I like the name Esther BUT unless she is a stunner as a teen/young woman it might be a bit frumpish iyswim.

InLoveWithSweenyTodd · 08/05/2008 16:02

I like esther a lot.
I know Esther Williams is obvioulsy the name of that swimmer - movie star, but I wouldn't laugh at all.

Sunshinemummy · 08/05/2008 16:03

Do you mean as in the name Esther, which I really like, or the fact it's the name of a Hollywood star/swimmer from the 1950s?

OracleInaCoracle · 08/05/2008 16:05

i think its lovely.

PortAndLemon · 08/05/2008 16:09

(P.S. To clarify, I love the name Esther but would inwardly snurk at the movie star connection)

Blandmum · 08/05/2008 16:11

I'd wonder how ell she swam and if she grinned a lot!

noddyholder · 08/05/2008 16:11

Esther is one of my favourite names although Madonna has it as her kabballah name if that bothers you

MaeWest · 08/05/2008 16:13

I'd think that in 30 yrs time the number of people who knew who Esther Williams was would be limited... unless your unborn DD turns out to a new swimming sensation

PortAndLemon · 08/05/2008 16:22

Is poorbuthappy planning a 30-year gestational period, then?

margoandjerry · 08/05/2008 16:25

I think it's lovely and I think in the general population the awareness of Esther Williams as in the swimmer must be around 1% and falling all the time.

Playingthewaitinggame · 08/05/2008 16:45

If you like the name Esther go for it. I like the name, although it is a little old fashioned. Your dd might not like it much though. I have a dear friend called Esther (who is now 25) who hates it. As soon as she went away to uni she reinvented herself as Tess.

poorbuthappy · 08/05/2008 16:46

I am not planning a blardy 30 year pregnancy!

I have only known 1 Esther and she was a stunner!

Ok so does Lily Williams sound too lllly?

AHLH · 08/05/2008 16:52

I think Lily Williams scans really well actually.

poorbuthappy · 08/05/2008 16:55

AHLH - did you know that you are the very first person in the whole wide world who has said that?

Lily Williams is a bit illy. It's not terrible, though -- if I think about it in a "what do I think of this name?" kind of way then the repeated ..ily..illi... does seem too much, but if I just met someone called Lily Williams then it wouldn't strike me as a bad name.

misdee · 08/05/2008 18:18

what about venus (heck i'm not going to use it!)

kayzisexpecting · 08/05/2008 18:22

I really like Lily Williams. Its a bit illly but it is a nice name.

misdee · 08/05/2008 18:22

i dont like lilly williams.

doesnt seem right to me.

vicsta · 08/05/2008 18:41

Nothing wrong with Lily Williams, rolls off the tongue nicely I think. Prefer Esther though, no idea who the famous Esther Williams, so I couldn't laugh.

I love the name Esther. DS2 was going to be an Esther. I would smile a bit to be introduced to an Esther Williams but she was gorgeous and I would just assume parents had not heard of her....I don't think many of my mummy friends would know who she was.

MrsBadger · 09/05/2008 11:23

I like Esther and (in my youth and ignorance) have never heard of Esther Williams.

Afraid I think Lily Williams is a no-go.
