Alba, such a strong female name. It sounds lovely too.

Misfiteverywhere · 07/02/2025 21:37

Lorena

Comedycook · 07/02/2025 21:38

Both are lovely but I like Lorena best

ladygindiva · 07/02/2025 21:39

Lorena. I think Alba will date.

OlympicOwl · 07/02/2025 21:39

Lorena. I taught a lovely little girl with that name.

weegiemum · 07/02/2025 21:41

Alba

SirChenjins · 07/02/2025 21:43

Lorena. Alba is the Gaelic word for Scotland and up here every second taxi firm or skip hire company begins with Alba.

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/02/2025 21:48

Lorena - sounds strong and elegant but not overused or dated. Lori is a cool nn if wanted, too.
Alba is quite nice too.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 07/02/2025 21:57

Alba is a TV brand.

I know! I am Scottish and we live here. My husband is Latino and it's a family name. I really love it but this is my only issue with it! I have suggested the Irish Ailbhe (Alva) instead so it's not so confused with Alba (Scotland) 🤣

I prefer Lorena- Alba is pretty but as PP’s have pointed out a lot of different connotations which isn’t always the best thing- also Jessica Alba to add to them.

SkaneTos · 07/02/2025 22:38

Both great names! I voted for Alba.

There is an actress in my Scandinavian home country who is called Alba August, she is very popular right now, and the name Alba makes me think of her. (Her father is director Bille August, her mother is actress Pernilla August (from "Star Wars"!).

I like Lorena, but and this is showing my age immediately thought of Lorena Bobbitt, who one night lopped off the dick of her abusive husband as he lay sleeping. It was a notorious case in the early '90s and went as global as a story could in those days. I doubt many people younger than me would remember it, but you might as well be aware of that association with the name.

Mrs Bobbitt threw the dismembered dick out of the window, but it was recovered and surgeons reattached it to Mr Bobbitt, who then had a brief career as a porn star.

BatchCookBabe · 07/02/2025 23:42

They both sound like shampoos. Sorry. Don't like either one.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 07/02/2025 23:45

Same asGroovergirl, I immediately thought Bobbit.

Honestly, she sounds like a hero 🤣.

Hahaha thanks for the giggle. Fortunately I wasn't born when it happened so I don't think anyone I know will jump to that reference. ☺️

Alba of the two

I don’t love it, but the other sounds a bit hill billy.

Interesting! It's a Spanish name so maybe we're just used to it seeing as my husband is Latino (Lorena that is)

Alba is such an unpleasant sound to me I had to vote Lorena even though I'm not keen.

Alva is lovely, as is Ailbhe, but not Alba.

GreenTeaLikesMe · 09/02/2025 05:21

Lorena, definitely.

I really don't like the look or sound of Alba, and agree with the PP that it will date. There are a lot of Ava, Alva, Alma, Alia type names around in the last few years.

Lorena is nice and has never been common enough to be associated with any period, and Lori is a nice shortened form.

whatflite · 09/02/2025 06:39

I also immediately thought of Lorena Bobbitt

Onlyvisiting · 09/02/2025 06:43

I've never heard of Lorena as a name, tbh I assumed you were trying to fancify Lauren until I saw other posters mention it! So although it sounds nice and I like it much better than alba I would imagine you need to be prepared for her having to spend a lot of her life correcting people from calling her lauren.

Oh, fyi I also googled her name and the top result was the Lorena Bobbit that was previously mentioned, apparently there was a TV docu series about it in 2019, so more people might be aware of the association than you'd expect.

BilboBlaggin · 09/02/2025 06:49

Never heard the name Lorena but I really like it.

We have a little Alba nearby but I'm not keen on the name and always think of TVs. If you live in Scotland I defo wouldn't use it. A bit like me in England calling my child Anglo.

spilltheteapot · 09/02/2025 06:59

Lorena over Alba.
I know of a Lorena and I can’t get my head around if it’s Loh-reen-a or Loh-wren-ah.
Which way do you say it OP?

TappyGilmore · 09/02/2025 07:05

What about Lorna? As others have pointed out, Lorena will forever be associated with Lorena Bobbitt. It was the first thing I thought of. Lorna is so similar and yet no negative connotations.

I don’t like Alba at all.
